When I go to Colorado I drink almost no alcohol and eat sparingly. I make sure I drink A LOT of water and cut way back on the caffiene (it dehydrates) I usually try to relax my first day there. We always do a lot of physical stuff, hiking, riding, I even ran a bit this last time. I've never had altitude sickness, just a bit of breathlessness on occasion. Generic Dude struggled this last time but that might have had something to do with various alcoholic beverages and lack of sleep. And yes, sunscreen sunscreen sunscreen. I slather it on all over when I get up in the morning. And make sure to wear a brimmed hat. Cannot drink too much water or wear enough layers. I was just there two weeks ago and saw it go from 90 degrees mid day to a snow storm a few days later. I adore Colorado. You will be near The Great Sand Dunes (not far from where my brother and mother live) and Zapata Falls kinda cool to see also. We hiked all over that area about 18 years ago. My favourite places are further north in Chaffee County.
