62p from each of us in the UK for last year. 10% down on the year before.

By crikey this monarchy thing is oppressive.

Meanwhile the latest guess for the cost of the pope's visit to Brum this summer is running at £12million - or one third of the cost of the queen for a year.

Get your purses out everyone, thats another 20p for the pope if you will

Isn't the Queen one of the wealthiest people alive? Why should the british taxpayers subsidize a family of german parasites? ;)

It's not a true monarchy unless people are being beheaded for dissent.

I can't support this idea of a Monarchy unless they start beheading all the Republicans.

It's like me being the King, what be the point if I don't have the power to behead those that oppose me?

Call this a Monarchy?

$1 a year is not much.   What is that? a few postage stamps.

Yeah but there is the principle at stake here.

If I said to you I'm going to take some of your gold, you'd probably object no matter how much of it you have.

I mean surely you can spare a bar or two?

The Queen is part owner of the federal reserve.

She is one of the largest land owners in the world.

If I give you a gold coin, what do I get in return?

i think you'll find that we subsidise immigrants from all parts of the world lol, its just that the Saxe-Coburgs get a lot more state benefits than the rest!!!

The joy of giving and helping those less fortunate than yourself.

For just 1 gold coin a month you can sponsor me and in return you get some flashy advertising pamphlet showing me thriving in my native habitat thanks to your 1 gold coin.

Yes, it is estimated at twelve or thirteen million for the pope's visit excluding the bill for the police, this is going to get more expensive yet, and us with a government saying we have no cash. Probably better to tell the old scrote if he wants to come here get his wallet out as we can't afford to pay for him with all these cuts we are having, he is an unnecessary burden on the taxpayer.

Regarding the royal family, actually they cost us less last year than previous years, with reports that her madge has been dipping into her back pocket to pay for some stuff normally paid by the tax payer, a worthy trend one hopes may continue.

Well, at least her madge doesn't have the expense of her own private jet like the majority of other world leaders.

The queen is not a world leader.  The parliament and PM rule the country.  Royal family just provides some sterling drama.

The PM doesn't have a private jet either, but the Queen is the most experienced head of state in the world. But seeing as she stays out of politics, she must be thinking thank fuck for the civil war, for it is far better living a life of observation than political involvement.

The cash doesn't exactly go into her pocket & get blown on coke, it mostly goes on maintaining all the old buildings and employing the fancy dress lot....nationalised tourism essentially.

As for being the richest around......iffy.

In theory she's worth tens of billions, but almost all of it isn't really hers, & actually national property 'held in trust' (think she could sell buckingham palace?). Trying to work out what belongs to her, ignoring the things which come with the monarchy (crown), she's probably not quite a billionaire. Still stinking of course, but not in the top 1000 richest people.
