There's a miconsception here....soldiers who fought in WW1 weren't tired of violence...nor were those who were on the sidelines such as students....

then you had World War two that started in the thirties and went through 1945, in the fifties we had korea, in the sixties and seventies we had Vietnam, a couple of short wars in the middle east, and in the eighties there was the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, in the 90's we had the 1st Gulf War, the nice little war going on in what used to be Yugoslavia, then in the first decade of the 21st century we have the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Since the beginning of recorded history, there has never been a sustained period of peace anywhere on the planet.  That is at least 4510 years!

You really think that one war, that epitomizes all that his terrible about war would actually bring about a world government?  More likely it would exterminate 3/4's of the earth's population, leave isolated pockets of humanity trying to survive and technology in the toilet.

Granted, maybe human would rebuild and build a better world with less pollution etc, but the odds are they will most likely rediscover all the wonderful ways to kill each other.

Also, don't forget that Bush said "You're either with us, or you're with the terrorists", and since the democrats (and a lot of republicans) weren't for the war, I guess Bush was the one who said we U.S. taxpayers were therefore somehow supporting the terrorists. So when Obama declares war on U.S. taxpayers, he's not the first. Until we hold those boneheads accountable for their treasons, I would expect that Obama won't be the last to perpetuate war against U.S. taxpayes and U.S. sovereignty. Until then, expect the usual media circus during election times, and don't forget to ask the staff at your electronic voting booth for a receipt showing that you voted for your candidate, so when your 3rd party candidate is reported as having less than 1% of that precincts votes, you can get your receipts together with your neighbors and prove them wrong.

With all those squaddies, arms and armour in the US, I wonder if perchance a new war will start, an internal war of everyone being a suspect and with that the routing out of the perceived worst kind or at least those in opposition.

Surely the mission not accomplished angle would be the reason for such actions, instead of fight the terrorist abroad, fight them where they pop up in America, maybe Pahunk's Fema camps will become more of a reality, and all that in the name of protecting America from terrorism, no doubt what a great many will blindly accept.

Yes, they were. That's part of the reason why Israel refuses to recognise them or negotiate with them. After years of playing up on being poor rational democrats stranded in a sea of unconstitutional monarchies and theocracies, it'd be a bit embarrassing if they had to admit that they were trying to wipe out a nascent democracy next door, wouldn't it?

No. Actually they weren't. Hamas, the political party, was elected to some seats in the PA parliament. They did not hold the enitrety of government.

Hamas then drove out the legal government from Gaza and took over. That's why Gaza is embargoed but the West Bank isn't.

Status: offline 		The trouble with those two other middle eastern nations is they are not Americans, they don't do as they are told or even fear the might of the US machine, whereas the people at home do, they were brought up to do so. Perhaps it is the fielding of large armies and high technology weapons is largely irrelevent in this modern day and age of the world looking on, therefore a rag tag bunch of guerillas can actually if not win but at least hold out by being there in opposition until it is massive man power and technology becomes too expensive for the foreigner to be there, so they withdraw leaving the rag tag guerillas to claim victory. As to those that are being trained to cope, don't make me laugh, a bunch of fighters with a mindset that saw off two superpowers ain't going to worry about them, more the reverse, the newly trained will do the fearing.

If it wasn't for the world looking in, the present age of the critical media eye, I don't doubt the allied forces would have eradicated any opposition long before now, but as it is with the  media eye on the objective, large fighting forces are proving to be an expensive waste of time and perhaps another danger has become apparent, reliance on technology and therefore the weakening of the warrior.

Steven, I see it that way too but I do like Hunky, he does come out with some interesting posts in here!
I said at the beginning of Obama's term that I hoped he'd be, "the best president we've ever had" but I'm feeling very let down.
Why do I get the feeling that the govt. is doing things "to" us and not "for" us? And now this business about the DOJ "sueing" Arizona really doesn't do anything to disspell that feeling!

Status: offline 		Perhaps the change that Obama was, was not the change he was thought to be. Though a president of a major country, he is only a human just like everyone else and as a human finds the same problems as everyone else, quite possibly even what Obama thought himself has become something different as looking in is very different from actually being there. Could it be Obama is now in with and up against the establishment, he is the new interloper to be kept under control, a case of work with us and survive or against us we will find the ways to destroy you.

The establishment exists in every political regime, the way it was always done and the interests of old maintained, it is the natural order for many, change is something that makes the establishment nervous and they, whoever they are want to maintain their status quo or else why be there.

I see it as though never mind who is the people's figurehead, it is the behind the scenes faceless faces that hold the real power, the bureacratic machine.

the point of having a continual forever war in the US is to maintain the martial law status we have had since since lincoln declared it and the senate adjourned since die.

hence circumventing the constitution and the ability to get under the umbrella of the emergency war powers act to any extent desired.

Proof?  all the courts of the nation and all government institutions all fly the "courts martial" flag, which comes under the jurisdiction of the ancient law of the flag.
