I am so tempted, it's my biggest wish list item at Amazon.  I can see a ton of advantage and could easily talk myself into parting with some cash to own one.  My question - do you have one?  Do you love it?  Any buyer's remorse?

I don't have one. The ONLY reason I might consider one is that you can read it outside. I do like to lay (lie?) by the pool and read, but it's difficult in bright sunshine. Kindle claims you can read it in any light. That would be cool.

But normally, if I want to read, I want to turn pages...newspaper, book, magazine, whatever. To me it's an escape from online stuff, and I don't want to stare at another screen. (personally)

That is my exact dilemma.  I work 2 jobs, both require close attention to a computer screen (data entry for solid blocks of hours), so I worry that would be an issue with a Kindle, too much staring at a screen, eye strain.  Yet I love to read in bed, before going to sleep, it's a ritual I've had since childhood, and the Kindle seems like it would be good for that.

I love the feel of a book in my hands and turning pages.
I'm also in the habit of reading books in the bath tub.
I doubt a Kindle would survive being dropped in the tub.

Yeah, but books are...books! They have a feel, a scent, a je nais c'est quoi (sp?) that is intoxicating. I don't think I'd ever want to just drink in my kindle because I fell in love with a story I read on it.

Oh, I completely get what you are saying as I have those same thoughts.  I have also been struggling against the feeling that I should be happy with less and not consume in order to have something I *think* I need.  And the good feeling from buying things is extremely fleeting, in my case.

Thorny got hers because she is always travelling for work and one Kindle vs many books, the choice was obvious! Plus you can now get newspapers and such. I am not going to indulge but if I was in a job where I was on the road I would totally go for it, rather than being the library hound that I am now.

I'm torn on this issue too....I like the idea of a Kindle, but books can be given away once read, browsed through (I have a terrible habit of surfing ahead in a book just a bit).  I know you can to a small extent loan Kindle books but not quite the same, when a book can be read and re-read.  Going to the beach with a book is nice and I don't particularly have to worry if sand or a little water gets splashed on a book, it'll dry out.

No. I don't. I feel they're a rip off. You pay a shit load of money to have the actual kindle, then you got to pay out 9 or 10 dollars on average per new book.

There's absolutely nothing wrong in my mind with an actual book that I need to go spend shit loads of money on electronic books.

I have books I've read over and over.
Ok, I'm a nerd book worm. I *may* consider a kindle as a distraction on a trip or some such, but I don't see me ever giving up my books for the most part.
I live within walking distance of a half price bookstore.
As a child, the library was my best friend. (who *knew* you could read things that was made for ANY age, rather than just kids books?!! (although I still read some very good kids books)
HM actually asked me recently if I actually read the books I have (tons...even though I often give them away or sell them) I thought that was so funny. Considering he often sees me reading. He just couldn't fathom someone going through books the way I do.
Books rock.
I'm sure Kindle does too for the right audience. I'm not sure I'm it.
(although...now that I think about it...I wonder if it would be easier to read a Kindle while on a treadmill? No pesky pages!)
Hmmm...

Oh! I just remembered! I found something that said that you can turn your DS (yes...I have one...don't ask...) into an electronic book reader.

Here's a link: http://blog.jonsayer.com/blog1.php/2009/08/24/how-to-turn-your-nintendo-ds-into-an-ebo

I have an iphone and got the Amazon Kindle for iphone app. Its pretty cool, since it is only about 4.99 or something like that and they have many free books you can download. I don't think I have actually purchased a book on it yet. But I have downloaded several free ones.

No, I don't have a Kindle, and I really wouldn't buy one either because it annoys me that Amazon sells ebooks exclusively in Kindle format to people with registered Kindles.

I have an entourage edge but I never use it and it's not that great, I do however read ebooks on my phone, and I love being able to quickly skim a few pages while waiting in line at the shops or waiting for a train or something.
