Level -> RE: Dude, you're 24 and you still only eat chicken strips and fries. (7/12/2010 4:19:08 AM)

Yes, but he doesn't, which means you're trying to change him, if not fix him [:D]

MissAsylum -> RE: Dude, you're 24 and you still only eat chicken strips and fries. (7/12/2010 4:23:52 AM)

that's exactly how i feel- like i'm trying t feed a child. i had calmari at a really good italian resteraunt and i almost felt like i had to do the "open up the hangar, here comes the aeroplane!" thing my mum did to my little brother when he was a baby. no suck luck though. and if all else fails, i will take your advice and obstain from sexual activy with him...and buy that vibrator you mentioned.

So his diet is a deal breaker with you ?

any suggestions on how to open up my boyfriend to the possibilitiies of different foods aside from college frat boy food? i've tried taking him out to all types of resteraunts, all on my tab and he is completely off put if they don't serve things that resemble a kid's menu at iHOP. his diet worries me, especially since there is a lack of green veggies and i don't want him to get sick as a result. any tips?

Start working out with him. I have found that the more I work out, the more healthy food my body craves.

You're not going to change his preferences for crappy food, but if you truly want him more healthy, start a fitness regime with him.

By the way, the way calamari is prepared in most places, it isn't exactly healthy. I wouldn't eat it either.

MissAsylum -> RE: Dude, you're 24 and you still only eat chicken strips and fries. (7/12/2010 4:32:28 AM)

[8|]why do you have to be right? granted, thats what i would change- his habitual tendancy to be unyielding to the prospect of new food. if he doesn't like it, fine. as long as he made an honest try.

MissAsylum -> RE: Dude, you're 24 and you still only eat chicken strips and fries. (7/12/2010 4:34:32 AM)

not at all. been with him for 4 years. i was worried about his health in the begining and its only gotten worse.

MissAsylum -> RE: Dude, you're 24 and you still only eat chicken strips and fries. (7/12/2010 4:37:01 AM)

we do work out together, and like you, i want healthy food afterwards. his post-workout food of choice: a double chili cheese burger. a tad counter-productive in my opinion.

Are you aware that a minority of people have (genetically, from birth) taste buds that detect bitterness in compounds found in many (especially green) vegetables, which most of us cannot taste at all?  To those people, most vegetables really do taste bad.  Thank goodness I am not one of them.

You will never convince such a person to like vegetables, and they no doubt have baggage left over from parents that tried to force them to eat things that, to them, tasted horribly bitter.  Before you undertake a campaign to introduce vegetables it might be helpful to find out if your BF has this genetically enhanced taste.

If they do, focus on getting them to eat fruit, rather than vegetables.

MissAsylum -> RE: Dude, you're 24 and you still only eat chicken strips and fries. (7/12/2010 4:49:58 AM)

hmm...never gave that any thought. he does eat his mother's collard greens, problem is, she loads them up with pork pieces(neck bones, fatback) and salt. i REFUSE to believe its healthy. but i like the idea of adding more fruit to my cooking and maybe that will help bring him around.

pahunkboy -> RE: Dude, you're 24 and you still only eat chicken strips and fries. (7/12/2010 6:27:43 AM)

He mush be a smoker.   He has no taste buds.

igor2003 -> RE: Dude, you're 24 and you still only eat chicken strips and fries. (7/12/2010 7:09:41 AM)

Hmmm...too bad you can't just lock him in a cell and give him bread and water for a week and a half. A number of years ago I was in the hospital with nothing but ice chips and an IV for "food". Once I was allowed real food again even the hospital food tasted like ambrosia!

More seriously, though, what about starting with some fruit smoothies? Those are wonderful, kind of like a shake. Have you tried using cheese on the veggies or doctoring them up with sauces, etc? That can help.

Calamari? Are you kidding? You have someone that you are concerned about the basics and you spring exotics on him? You'll never get his trust and cooperation with those tactics. Leave the squid, snails, fried grasshoppers, chococolate covered ants, raw fish, and other such nonsense completely and literally off the table if you want him to trust your judgement in what is "healthy". If someone was trying to help me learn to eat healthier food, then they start shoving that kind of thing in my face I would not cooperate with them nor trust their judgement much either.

MissAsylum -> RE: Dude, you're 24 and you still only eat chicken strips and fries. (7/12/2010 7:39:41 AM)

that was a poorly failed attempt to get him to try something different. yes, calamari isnt the healthiest thing( hell, i still enjoy ben & jerry's ), but it was fried meat, which is something that he is familar with. i figured it wouldn't be very scary to try. God, was I wrong.

MissAsylum -> RE: Dude, you're 24 and you still only eat chicken strips and fries. (7/12/2010 7:45:18 AM)

i was the smoker. i was a so-called badass who was smoking since i was 16. i quit last year, and even though food tastes sooo much better, i wager that my taste buds werent as under-devolped as his.

pahunkboy -> RE: Dude, you're 24 and you still only eat chicken strips and fries. (7/12/2010 9:23:35 AM)

He could try a new dish once a week.   Why not?

Actually dear it is usually the other way around. Your's are more than likely the under developed buds. Super tasters (Already Mentioned in this thread) are people who can taste things in food no one else can. This is why they tend to dislike Green foods, they can taste parts of it you can't like the Chemicles that are used when a plant engages in photosyntesis. (SP?)

I doubt this is the issue... I really think he has always been a picky eater and it was allowed growing up. If he will only eat certain things then it wouldn't be too far a stretch to think he was allowed to... I would talk to his Mamma about his eating habits as a child.

So that you know if he was a picky eater then.... I would SERIOUSLY suggest the withholding sex and buying the Hitachi cause it will take about a month before he is desperate enough to try new things just for the Pussy.

Happy Hunting.

How about beer soaked wheaties for breakfast, that'll get some fibre into him for a start.

MissAsylum -> RE: Dude, you're 24 and you still only eat chicken strips and fries. (7/12/2010 10:48:26 AM)

i think its a misunderstanding of what i meant that his taste buds are probably more under-developed than mine. he WILL NOT try things. he really has denyed himself the opportunity to develop and advanced palete when it comes to taste.

I knew what you meant.... I really just think he is a picky eater.... something that I have made SURE my child will never be.

If he doesn't eat what we eat... he doesn't eat. Got lucky in that he eats what we give him anyway.

I hope you can get him to try new things cause Calimari is something everyone should love... except those with alergies.

I disagree with withholding sex.

Dont play games with the guy.  Love him- offer new experiences- but do not make demands.   I tend to think- that withholding sex would only sabotage the good vibes they currently have.

be a team player- not a push-over= and not one that pushes over him.   be his partner.
