JUST FOR THE RECORD... paraphrased quote: If someone started a thread about female superiority; if they said that all men were inferior all women 1. What would i think of that poster? i would not form any opinion or judgement about the poster themselves, as a human being, based on the thread they wrote. i would judge the arguement, not the person. i, personally, don't believe in female superiority, (or male superiority, for that matter), and i would proceed to make THAT arguement, using facts to back up my point of view. 2. Would you find that view insulting? No, i would not find it insulting. i would find it a weak and erroneous arguement; one which could be easily disproved. 3. Would it rub you the wrong way? No, i don't become offended just because someone expresses a point of view which is different from my own. paraphrased quote: I try to think of how my words will impact others and I try not to offend people who aren't offending me. i believe that all Inky did was to state her opinion. She stated it rather strongly, yes. But then she opened up the floor to let others give their own opinions. i don't believe her intention was to offend, or to tell other people how to live their lives. She had every right to give her opinion, just as everyone else had the right to contradict her opinion with their own. This is a forum. Outspokenness seems to be the norm around here. i think we should all be a little less quick to take offense. paraphrased quote: It is one thing to say "In my relationship this is what goes on" and to say "In my opinion people who live differently than me are wrong"... This is a forum. i think it's perfectly alright to say that you think that someone else's opinion is wrong. We are here precisely to make those types of arguements. It is hypocritical to say that every single opinion is as valid as every other. Calling someone a smelly bitch is offensive. Saying you think they are wrong is not. If someone said "I think people who do Daddy/daughter relationships are sick fucks, that is just my opinion..." would you understand how offensive that is? No, i wouldn't. Not even if they said "people who do BDSM are sick fucks", "people who mastrubate are sick fucks", or "people with green eyes are sick fucks", or "people who eat meat are sick fucks" (since i don't do Daddy/daughter relationships). i wouldn't think they were being offensive, (although i might think they were being ignorant). i would just think that they were wrong. pam
