Your experience cannot possibly mirror mine. I indicated when I posted my comments that I was speaking from my personal perspective and experiences with individuals that I've encountered in my life. There are cultures that admonish these traits and others that are breeding grounds for its furtherance. And just because you haven't encountered narcissism in your walk of life doesn't mean it's not in existence. I'd see that a very shortsighted viewpoint in all truth.

The "aphas" I know and have met have had "it," and so they operate from a position of true strength and leadership. Talent, expertise, and exceptionalism really can't be faked -- but those lacking these qualities who seek status, money or position -- as described in your description -- are operating from a core position of weakness -- which is not evident by viewing them from the outside. The narcissist, back-stabber, / overly striving ambitious person -- these folks often do achieve their goals -- but I would not call them alphas. I would call them something else.

My Encyclopaedia of Anthroneurosociopsychology refers to such people as 'Gits', CB.

I think alpha man or woman is some one that you would allow to lead you. Even then it is relative...someone you would follow could feel obliged to follow someone else.

Alpha should not be confused with the lifestyle classifications such as Dom or sub. A sub could be just as alpha or more than a Dom...remember our classifications of Dom and sub are agreements on how WE want to interact with another...not how the other demands us to interact.

I grew up in the sure knowledge - as a boy - that I was very different to the boys that 'led' be it in class (interlectual alpha), at sports (physical alpha) or in the playgrounds (bully alpha). Now I am older I have come to the conclusion that these people always do better in life as they are not held back by the same emotional issues that befall me - and rarely suffer from a lack of self esteem. So when they take knocks they get right up - where i need cuddles and kind words and find it hard, their ego and high self esteem also mean speak in public and lead others without ever worrying about it and they do not worry about mistakes - just blunder on.
I guess these are all things i admire in doms - as i definitely identify as a beta-femme my favorite being the interlectual dom/dommes who have at least some insight into my world, and therefore take the time to comfort me... but also understand that it is the alpha side of them that I so envy, admire and worship.
Not sure if that makes sense.. my feelings in words. I always wanted to be like them, but now am comfortable in my own space.

You know, you're not helping reverse the opinion of those of us that suspect "alpha" is often used to mean "inarticulate and a bit dim".

When small caliber bullet penetrates you, you will know its impact before hearing the guns identifying sound and as it bounces around breaking bones and slamming through arteries it most definitely will be speaking to without words. The same truth holds with observation, words become meaningless when actions belie them. “There are none blinder then those who will not see or deaf then those refusing to hear.” Unfortunately many have never learned to listen to that which comes from within.

That would be great if dicks were detachable.  You, my friend, are a dumb ass.

You equanimity in the face of all this vile, petty, knee-jerk, and largely braindead hostility is quite admirable. While I do not have an opinion about your thread (I don't use the term) and would never have read it if I hadn't been referred to it, I strongly appreciate and respect your strength in the face of such adversity and your even-handed handling of the responses, some of them so very despicable. This is not an easy feat for many of us, but you made it look effortless. It reminded me of that saying about those who can keep their heads while all around them others are losing theirs.

In short, you rock, DaddysInkedSlut! :)

I have to say I agree with Porcelaine on all this, Alpha is a word some like to use to make themselves feel important. Correct P?
And that cake that looks like a pile of shit made me vomit my coffee a little bit
There are born leaders and born followers. Can't have one without the other, so it's not like one is more important anyway.

I define an alpha male as the strong, intelligent, resourceful male who watches, waits, and then acts when He needs to act.  He doesn't need an audience.  He doesn't need an entourage.

in wild mustang herds the herd is ALWAYS lead by a female who is in charge of the whole herd, i am unsure what other anmails follow this other than wild horses
which may be why they always end up as dog food.

Cha-ching. I'm totally cool with self promoting propaganda. But don't expect me to buy it.

Qualifying the buyer alleviates fucknoodle leadership.

Which kinda renders the designation of 'alpha' rather moot...?

The obvious escapes many. A man, masculinity emits from him, is essential in the characteristic making up his demeanor. His carriage, stalwartly certain in himself, strength unheralded speaks without the spoken word and is often the earmark of he who yields while leading without bravado.

I had a plan to sell simulated Bernanki ball sweat on ebay.

Somehow tho- it might get me banned.  lol

JUST FOR THE RECORD...

paraphrased quote:
If someone started a thread about female superiority; if they said that all men were inferior all women
1. What would i think of that poster?
i would not form any opinion or judgement about the poster themselves, as a human being, based on the thread they wrote. i would judge the arguement, not the person. i, personally, don't believe in female superiority, (or male superiority, for that matter), and i would proceed to make THAT arguement, using facts to back up my point of view.
2. Would you find that view insulting?
No, i would not find it insulting. i would find it a weak and erroneous arguement; one which could be easily disproved.
3. Would it rub you the wrong way?
No, i don't become offended just because someone expresses a point of view which is different from my own.

paraphrased quote:
I try to think of how my words will impact others and I try not to offend people who aren't offending me.
i believe that all Inky did was to state her opinion. She stated it rather strongly, yes. But then she opened up the floor to let others give their own opinions. i don't believe her intention was to offend, or to tell other people how to live their lives. She had every right to give her opinion, just as everyone else had the right to contradict her opinion with their own. This is a forum. Outspokenness seems to be the norm around here. i think we should all be a little less quick to take offense.

paraphrased quote:
It is one thing to say "In my relationship this is what goes on" and to say "In my opinion people who live differently than me are wrong"...
This is a forum. i think it's perfectly alright to say that you think that someone else's opinion is wrong. We are here precisely to make those types of arguements. It is hypocritical to say that every single opinion is as valid as every other. Calling someone a smelly bitch is offensive. Saying you think they are wrong is not.
If someone said "I think people who do Daddy/daughter relationships are sick fucks, that is just my opinion..." would you understand how offensive that is?
No, i wouldn't. Not even if they said "people who do BDSM are sick fucks", "people who mastrubate are sick fucks", or "people with green eyes are sick fucks", or "people who eat meat are sick fucks" (since i don't do Daddy/daughter relationships). i wouldn't think they were being offensive, (although i might think they were being ignorant). i would just think that they were wrong.
