The belief that things fall because a higher power is pushing them down has gotten it's own wiki article. Pasta be praised!

IF is not a real theory. Intelligent design is a scientific theory.
The wiki chapter beginning says it all: "Intelligent falling (IF) is a parody...".

He knows this, he is just trying to ridicule other people...

The odd thing is, our own physicists do not understand the process of gravity, which makes this "parody" all the more ironically meaningless.

quote:

As for the science behind the action, we know that Isaac Newton defined gravity as a force -- one that attracts all objects to all other objects. We know that Albert Einstein said gravity is a result of the curvature of space-time. These two theories are the most common and widely held (if somewhat incomplete) explanations of gravity.

Intelligent falling is at least as much a valid scientific theory as intelligent design, I'd say more so because the theory of gravity isn't nearly as well proven as evolution.

Gives "Fall into the Gap" new meaning!

and Im not the least bit surprised that the response is to claim that "intelligent design" is a "scientific theory".

But I bet you hang onto that cliff face pretty firmly lest that unproven theory pull you down

Its existence is not a theory, just how it arises.

Not people just an idea.

It almost sounds like you disapprove, but I must be getting the wrong impression about that after all you use ridicule more than any two other posters I know.

" Intelligent design is a scientific theory."
[:D]

Elisabella -> RE: The Theory of Intelligent Falling (7/24/2010 4:19:10 PM)

I agree, they should teach this in Kansas.

Fellow -> RE: The Theory of Intelligent Falling (7/24/2010 4:31:38 PM)

Formally one can talk about proven theory only inside a certain paradigm. The assumption (the existence of higher level consciousness)  the Intelligent Design theory makes is considered irrational by most  (naive)  materialists.

They should teach it everywhere. It is a great object lesson in pseudo-science and the lengths that people will go to defend something that is strictly a matter of faith.

I had a great encounter with the ex-husband of my first lg. He was born again and fancied himself an expert in ID. She was still influenced by his ideas, since she had been exposed to them for so many years. Over a bottle of wine he ticked off from memory the talking points from the ID web sites, and I rebutted every one of them sufficiently to open her eyes to the crap that she had been subjected to.

There is much more that kids can learn from the teaching of ID than by ignoring it.

I hold on really tight, not only do I have to worry about an intelligent pusher knocking me down, what if he were to wander off....after all deities are notoriously unreliable.

Oh, you are not counting yourself in that, are you?[;)]

Yes that's it, that's exactly what I mean! When it comes to ridicule even ten of me working together couldn't hold a candle to you.

That is not "ridicule", ridicule would be telling you that your beliefs were idiotic, delusional, and based in a fantasy world because you can't face reality....

I don't think your beliefs are any of the above... I just think you are intolerant of others, that's all.

OMG There's nothing scientific about it. That's why it shouldn't be taught in schools!! I firmly believe this would be a form of child neglect- since children are guaranteed free education (including *science*) in this country. I say just mention it as a crackpot pseudo-scientific theory that it is. In the same way that we all learn about creationism and the Scopes Trial etc. I don't know who's advocating for it to be taught in schools, I went to catholic school for 12 years and never even knew anyone still believed in creationism, until I discovered the internet in my early 20s. GotSteel -> RE: The Theory of Intelligent Falling (7/24/2010 6:25:43 PM)

Wow that's good ridicule, I'm taking notes. Please teach me more in the ways of hate and spite.

juliaoceania -> RE: The Theory of Intelligent Falling (7/24/2010 6:26:15 PM)

You are way beyond me there... I am taking lessons from you...
