FR:

the top brass does not want this.

However- pull the funding and the issue changes.

The people along the fucking border want something done.

As I have mentioned previously all that is necessary is for the cops to enforce the existing laws against employing those who cross the border illeglly. A few well publicized exploits of the big guys going to the federal slam for a couple of hundred years and multi million dollar fines should cause a sucking sound (that sound would be millions of illegals headed south.) of course that would not make the bigots happy because what they seem to want is a pile of dead mexican bodies not a solution to the problem.

What??? Bigots here in the good ol' USA??? I'm shocked, and outraged!!! Thank God we don't have any of those here on these boards!

Actually, I would take a dual approach, secure the border and also prosecute those who hire illegals.

When one has limited resources one needs to focus on what will give you the most bang for your buck.
If we were to follow my approach the limited border resources could then be targeted at interdicting non human contraband thus protecting californias largest agricultural enterprise.
win-win[;)]

Did I miss it, jlf? Did you give the basis for this assertion earlier? Talking about the people along the border here, not those in Phoenix. Was there a survey among the people of the border towns? Seriously asking.

My grandma sitting on the border with a shotgun could defend the border better than the federal government is doing, and she's dead.

She could probably post smarter comments as well.

Miles and Miles of fire ant mounds!!

cuckoldmepls -> RE: What would it take to actually secure the border with Mexico? (8/5/2010 9:14:24 AM)

Ok, I'll get serious. How about we keep the Rio Grande fully stocked with piranaha's. The next layer of defense would obviously be quicksand, then the fire ants could swarm in on their head. That should work.

Well, yanno, we could administer an English language test before letting them cross into the Sonora Desert. Fail, you go back. Pass, you go ahead and die of thirst. [8|]

As far as picking the avocados why not use prison labor?

Something about not wanting them to enjoy the fruits of their labor?

Perhaps because picking avocados is a skill that few in prison posses.
