Aynne - the S&W you chose would appear to be an excellent weapon for competition, hunting (within reason) and exposed carry afield, but likely not the best candidate for concelled carry and quick deployment.  Would recommend considering a Springfield XD, SIG, or Glock (my personal preferences) in .40 S&W (9mm Luger if recoil is an issue) as alternatives if you don't already own something along these lines.

And as with any tool or piece of equipment in which we entrust our life or well being, become intimately familiar with the operation, care, and feeding of the unit, and practice as often as you can and in as realistic a manner as you can to mimic the situations where you envision real life use.

Steponme73

a lasting tribute to the words of papal legate Arnaud Amalric, who, at the seige of Beziers in July of 1209, when asked by the Crusaders how to distinguish Cathars from Catholics, uttered the words:

Caedite eos.  Novit enim Dominus qui sunt eius. (Kill them all.  For the Lord knoweth them that are His.)

which led to the slaughter of 20,000+ men, women, and children, and the complete and total destruction of the city by fire.

I want one of these. I love the round and I love the reliability of a revolver.

It is simply not reasonable to assume you can get ALL the guns away from ALL the people who have them in the US.

Exactly.  I like my guns, I enjoy them and I'm not handing them over to anyone.

But at the same time I don't believe one should be able to walk into a store and buy a hand gun and a box of ammunition the same way you can a candy bar either.

About 12 years ago I had a play partner who worked in the Tampa area at a little call center doing phone sex.  One night things were a tad slow and  she was talking with a couple of her coworkers there about the gun she carried in her purse.  One thing after another she has taken it out and showing it off and then the big bang.  Somehow she discharged it.  The manager comes running in asking what happened as the girls all just sat there wild eyed and open mouthed telling him they didn't know.  If he had looked up the wall a bit he might have noticed the bullet hole.

She was a bright girl and that job was paying her college tab.  But common sense was not her strong point.  There are some who just shouldn't have things like a gun.

Did you ever see the one on youtube about the black police firearms expert ?

He was explaining to kids in school how dangerous it is to fool about with guns. He took one in to show them. !He was half way through saying " I am the only one profesional enough to show you this", when he shot himself in the foot ! I kid you not, its out there !

I want a Glock. I want the model that fires projectiles that cannot be stopped. They pass through any body armour.

Wow! Guns are getting expensive! I remember the days when you could get a gun like that for $300.
I have a nice Colt Detective Special in .38 Cal that I bought about 20 years ago for, I think,...$350.

mnottertail -> RE: My kind of gun control (7/28/2010 3:14:58 PM)

yeah, I paid 150 for my dick special and i wish I woulda bought that ladyfinger for 289 when I was in new york.

this 'obama is taking your guns away' shit is what brought these high prices.

KD I am in a forum where an American guy posted about a town in his state. The mayor ruled that every home owner had to own a gun. Those with criminal records or mental health issues were excluded.

The results do not support your views. Burglaries went down significantly, if I recall correctly it was a decrease of perhaps 40% Other decreases followed, for as you know burglary is sometimes accompanied by rape, beating, torture and homicide.

You miss my point...it is not that crime will not go down...but it is that accidental gun deaths and injuries go up when there are more guns available to people that are not experienced with them and their dangers. The problem is that many states don't require comprehensive gun safety courses when issuing permits...They let any dumb ass have one and the kids often get hurt...more often than they save someone from a crime.

zenny -> RE: My kind of gun control (7/28/2010 4:36:00 PM)

Um.. No. Shooting is the sport with the lowest injury rate. IIRC it's something like .0001% . But you said accidental deaths. As I pointed out earlier and you conveniently ignored one can only know when guns fail to protect, not when they do protect because guess what - they don't take precise data on it. Want to know what some of the estimates are per year of murders/rapes/robbery stopped by guns? It's in the millions. Build a bridge and get over your bias.

To those who say 'I don't want joe blow going out and just buying a gun'. I don't want the same joe blow buying a car of any sort which are MUCH more dangerous and our system for ensuring competence is a joke and laws guiding vehicles being misguided at best. But you want to put control of your weapon (who can and can't and under what circumstances have/use/carry) in the hand of another? It defeats the point, idiot. Immediate protection is not something the law and those who enforce it can provide, it is your responsibility. Even from the very rare idiot who buy's a gun and whom all think shouldn't have one. Guess what, protect yourself from them too - carry 'the great equalizer'.

Kennesaw Georgia, by chance?

Crime Plunges in Pro-gun Town

Kennesaw, Ga., a northern suburb of Atlanta, passed an ordinance requiring heads of households "to maintain a firearm" and ammunition "to provide for the civil defense" and "protect the general welfare of the City and its inhabitants."

...

Kennesaw's crime rate plummeted. In fact, the number of some crimes declined amid soaring population growth. For example, in figures the city provided to the FBI Uniform Crime Report, Kennesaw had 54 burglaries in 1981 – the year before the gun ordinance – with a population of 5,242. In 1999, with a population of 19,000, only 36 burglaries were reported.

The rate of violent crime is approximately four times lower than the state and national rates, Kennesaw's Crime Statistics Report said. "Violent crime is almost nonexistent in residential neighborhoods," Graydon told UPI. The detective, who has been with the police department since 1986, said the isolated exceptions take place in motels or in commercial areas.

Certainly looks like it Butch.

Although, if your point was to minimize the effects of the law, then I think you haven't succeeded.

The article I quoted was from about 10 years ago, and specifically mentioned burglaries as the crime that was measured.

Yours is about a "disgruntled ex-employee." shooting.

You see my point is that there are always two sides to a story... yes burglaries down but nuts with guns up...see what I mean. There is a lot to consider with these laws.

kdsub -> RE: My kind of gun control (7/28/2010 5:36:32 PM)

I forgot to add... I am NOT against the ownership of guns... not at all... Just I believe we should have strict rules and regulations governing the training and use of said weapons... better screening of applicants as well.

Butch
