Now for some good news:

BP Oil Spill: Clean-Up Crews Can't Find Crude in the Gulf

As Size of Slick Shrinks, Experts Say Oil is Breaking Up, Staying Below Surface

For 86 days, oil spewed into the Gulf of Mexico from BP's damaged well, dumping some 200 million gallons of crude into sensitive ecosystems. BP and the federal government have amassed an army to clean the oil up, but there's one problem -- they're having trouble finding it.

...

...experts say an astonishing amount has disappeared, reabsorbed into the environment.

"[It's] mother nature doing her job," said Ed Overton, a professor of environmental studies at Louisiana State University.

Experts: Gulf of Mexico Oil is Breaking Up

The light crude began to deteriorate the moment it escaped at high pressure, and then it was zapped with dispersants to speed the process along. The oil that did make it to the ocean's surface was broken up by 88-degree water, baked by 100-degree sun, eaten by microbes, and whipped apart by wind and waves.

What planet have you been on?

In that case BP should be getting the credit.

Don't you think?

Nope, cuz Obama gets credit for extorting the money out of them to do the right thing.

BP to claim $10-billion tax credit from Gulf oil spill

Aside from the confused......

Are they talking about just the surface?

It`s very possible that most of the oil was "dispersed" with chems.(toxic chems btw).

BP sprayed millions of gallons of dispersant directly into the oil spout at the ocean floor.

That could mean that very little makes it to the top.

Pretty soon, they will be able to measure the exact amount of oil per minute (hr/dy)that was leaking. There are some estimates that hundreds of thousands of barrels a day was leaking out.Possibly over a million a day of oil and methane

Then it`s just a matter or calculating what the bill to BP is.

That 20 bil was just the down payment.

That is of course if the GOP doesn`t get control of congress.

If they do,BP`s liability will be shifted to us,the American taxpayers.

You could try reading the linked article, most of your questions were already answered there.

And they're opening the gulf back up to fishing already, so the cleanup costs apparently aren't going to be anywhere near previous estimates. Could it be Obamas BP shakedown was even more out of line than anyone knew?

So Sanity,

Your saying Obama did a great job orchestrating the clean up.

Come back next year and we'll see how all of the oil still under the surface and the effects of all of the toxins sprayed into the water play out.

Still hoping for the best

Edited to add:

The areas that have been opened were on the fringes and previously closed mostly as precaution.  The skimmers and their crews have been doing a great job of keeping the oil from reaching shore and ever getting into those areas.

But one is to never let the opportunity for a hypocritical, partisan, cheap shot...go to waist.

I think without these posts...we could save some oil. Well, couldn't we ?

Owner59 -> RE: Clean-Up Crews Can't Find Crude in the Gulf (7/28/2010 7:59:29 AM)

This may well be saving oil.

Think about it......

What I did was post an article that relates how the sun and salt water and microbes, etc, are cleaning the oil up.

What you did is what you always do, post an article and cherry-pick what supports your point.

The balance of the article was nowhere near as optimistic as the few sentences you pulled out.

We also have mention of how the the chemicals sprayed helped the process before it reaches the surface.

So your saying Obama did a good job by allowing those to be used?

Here is the catch,  "The oil that did make it to the ocean's surface".  There has still been much concern over the amount of chemicals in the water and their effect along with the plumes of oil traveling under the surface that BP keeps denying.

Louve00 -> RE: Clean-Up Crews Can't Find Crude in the Gulf (7/28/2010 8:28:14 AM)

The Gulf being able to "clean itself" is an idea they're trying to push on people.  If you guys really believe that, then come with me....I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell ya [:D]  (was a good wishful thinking thought though, Sanity)
