No I did not know that.

Our food supply really is pathetic.

I live near the main headquarters of a grocer chain- 168 stores.    Yet- the product is dismal.

Note that same stores sell rxs.

No I did not know that.

Our food supply really is pathetic.

Ever seen someone with Rickets? Scurvy? Pellagra? Beriberi? Goitre?

Those are real diseases of poor nutrition.

We are the tallest, longest lived people ever. A significant factor in that is good nutrition and public health interventions (including vaccinations and flouridation of water). Anyone who claims otherwise is either a crackpot or is trying to sell you a fraud.

Status: offline 		My grandparents had never seen half the fresh produce I can choose from at my local supermarket. People in my greatgrandparents generation did not have half the FDA guarantees I have. I've seen photos, from that time, of raw meat hanging in uncooled butcher shops with flies crawling on it. Heard about flour and other grain products with meal worms crawling in them.

I can live with oranges that have less vitamin C. My grandparents very likely rarely ate one after they moved to Iowa.

Status: offline 		What goes into food is why I try to eat organic now and where I can't I am very choosy what I buy, but my staples are fresh wholemeal bread,  brown rice and pasta and sometimes just that when the funds are low, but if rice satisfies a large portion of the world's poor, then it is good enough for me.

Oh, I am also poor, but definately not fat, as my diet has improved with having less funds available. The fat I think comes purely from the wrong foods and quite often foodstuffs consumed by overwrought and pestered mothers with little money and no time to do anything due to the sproglings demands.

My assumptions are purely based upon what I see, as nearly all the young mothers I see with a shed load of squally demanding and bickering kids in tow, look harrassed and definately have an issue with weight.

I hope so. Because there are certain numbers that will fuck you up when it comes to health care in the US. We are not doing as well as most people think. Of course some will attribute that to socialised medicine or who knows what, but we are sinking, and heading for third world numbers. And it will happen. If it keeps on as it is, it will happen even if Jesus appears and takes over the world. Fuck proving it, to really do that you red about 300 geological reports, and maybe a thousand entries from medical journals dating back to the 1930s.

What I am saying basically is that we, as a people in the US, are not as healthy as many think.

Try one little thing. Check infant mortality rates in 1930 in the US compared to today.

MSG is harmless. This has been studied quite extensively and no ill effects have ever been tied to the substance in properly controlled tests.

Mercurt can be dangerous and prenant woman and small children should take care eating seafood high in mercury. The rest of us should avoid eating fish from heavily contaminated water (only an issue when eating fish from non commercial sources).

Aspartame has been dealt with by others.
