Politics and religion are control.

It's like two people stranded on a tiny island, trying to figure out how to run (control) the island best.

I'd rather not be stranded on a tiny island at all. Until we stop discussing politics and religion and start discussing how to get off this "metaphorical" tiny island, we're ALWAYS going to have problems, problems that politics and religion can't fix, because a tiny island isn't an ideal place to live when there's a vast world of possibilities out there.

What's all this mean? It means trying to fix a broken system from within the broken system won't work.

Hate to say it but we are stuck on an island. It's a big island, kinda planet sized, but it still has finite resources and limited space.

Politics is easy to escape if we escape the condition in which the need for politics arises.

Say slavery still existed, and slave owner A was trying to talk with slave owner B about how best to use the slaves.

No decision they arrive at will be good or helpful, or a long-term solution, because the condition of slavery is not good or helpful.

Thus they would need to deviate from the pre-conceived notion that slavery is good, just like we need to deviate from the pre-conceived notion that a world where religion and politics are needed is good, or as good as it can get.

I agree. Politics and religion provide us with no practical means to manage our space and resources. They are obsolete given our what we can do with technology. Beliefs are the software on which your brain runs, and when your software is out of date or obsolete the smart thing to do is replace it.

If there is more than one person on earth there will be politics by its very definition.

We may always have people coming together to arrive at conclusions for our society, but if we're smart we'll do away with politics as we know it now in our current model of government.

Arpig -> RE: Politics and religion. (7/30/2010 7:22:48 PM)

And replace it with what?

Fuck. What is the alternative?

A system that isn't vulnerable to greed and where choices aren't made by people with only private interests in mind, something that will NEVER happen given our current establishment.

Trying to fix our system through politics and religion is like trying to use a bucket to bail water out of a sinking boat. Eventually that boat will sink, and even if it doesn't, it'll never operate as well as a boat with no hole in it.
