Yes quite right my mistake, they are two different creatures.[:D]

Toppingfrombottom,

This is how rumours get started.   I never said we couldn't interact with people not dressed in garb at faires....it was at SCA.  Two different animals :)

They have a really cool renassiance faire just north of Houston, TX every year in October. It lasts about 6 weeks and is always lots of fun.

MasterMagnus, I'll answer that question with a pic! :-)

caiphascain -- Good trolling!  I give you a solid 4 out of 5 stars.  You came on a little strong to begin with though.  A good troll throws in just a dash of subtlety,  just enough to convince his audience that he honestly doesn't know what an unbelievable dick he's being.  That way you get more outraged posts, from people duped into thinking that telling you their perspective will make some sort of a difference. Regardless, good job! ::golf clap::

Popeye -- Dirty, stinky people? Junky cars?Hm. I hate to tell you this, but it sounds like somebody took your money, and led you around back of a crack-house.  I have never heard of a ren faire like the one you describe.  Ours in MD has real horses,  real swords, and while its not too guys murdering each other, the joust is full contact knock them off their horse style.

First time I heard of the SCA was from a very lovely redhead in high school. I invited her to my place to show her my sword collection, and she told me she was a Scadian. I acted like I knew what it was (thought it was a wiccan thing and did I mention she was HOT?). I went to Pennsic 18, at 18 and I was hooked. Women were feminine, dressed beautifully, knew how to flirt and could take a compliment. Men were largly not present due to large mass combat somewhere 'over there', which meant more bored ladies....

The people were mostly couteous to a fault, would help those in need without looking for something in return and were typically well educated scholarly types, artists or both. Typically people took pride in their skills and abilities, not how much money they earned. I never noticed what cars were present in the parking lot.

I am biased as I met My lovely wife there several years later. I can't say that I've done anything with the group in 10 years, and due to politics I probably never will. But I look fondly back on those times and the people I met there.

I've worked with a lot of up scale businesses over the years, been to country clubs, resorts and the like. Row after row of cars I don't care about, and people who are more worried about their car than the people around them. I'll take the Scadians any day.

fill your belly with good things;
day and night, night and day, dance and be merry,
feast and rejoice.
Let your clothes be fresh,
bathe yourself in water,
cherish the little child that holds your hand,
and make your wife happy in your embrace;
for this too is the lot of man.'
