In a statewide referendum yesterday, voters in Missouri showed their distaste for Obama care. In a 70% to 30% vote they made it clear they don't want the feds running their health care system.

AsmodaisSin -> RE: Proposition C in Missouri (8/4/2010 7:57:38 AM)

Good for them.

servantforuse -> RE: Proposition C in Missouri (8/4/2010 7:59:56 AM)

Missouri is only one state, but it shows just how unpopular the health care bill really is. Go 'show me' state..

sappatoti -> RE: Proposition C in Missouri (8/4/2010 8:00:00 AM)

Florida's version comes up for vote this coming November, so we'll see if the decision made in Missouri will have an impact here.

truckinslave -> RE: Proposition C in Missouri (8/4/2010 9:31:34 AM)

There are continuing rumors of a new Contract with America.
Defunding/Repealing Obamacare should be pledge #1.
Can't argue 70+%

"Never in the history of our country has government required, you have to buy a product, any product, with your own money against your will," says State Senator Jane Cunningham one of the sponsors of the legislation which ultimately became Prop-C.

The State Government of Illinois requires any driver to buy auto insurance.

Not to mention every license sold. Car license. Business licenses, etc.

Jeffff -> RE: Proposition C in Missouri (8/4/2010 9:46:45 AM)

Point taken.

Although I am not sure that the law says you have to buy it.

Will Bill Gates or Warren Buffet have to buy it?

slvemike4u -> RE: Proposition C in Missouri (8/4/2010 9:50:49 AM)

I had an amusing thought,I'm willing to bet that all of the previous posters have health insurance....lol.And yet more than 70%(idiots all)are clothing their distaste for this bill over the requirement to obtain that which they themselves are fortunate enough to have.Ironic isn't it,their parisan loathing for the man in the Oval Office leads them to demonize a service none of them would be caught sick without.

I wouldn't be caught anywhere without a car.
I wouldn't be caught in any big city without my (heavily customized) 1911A1.
I don't want to buy them for other people either.
Must be partisan loathing. Or racism.

I mean, seriously, dude.... jump to simplified Daily Kos conclusions much?

subrob1967 -> RE: Proposition C in Missouri (8/4/2010 10:01:56 AM)

I guess the 75% of the people who voted are just ignorant, racist Cracka's[8|]

I see the usual suspects are against the people of Missouri having the CHOICE of opting out of Obamacare, OR receiving Obamacare if they so choose.

Mike, you're the idiot, not the 75% or Missourians.

servantforuse -> RE: Proposition C in Missouri (8/4/2010 10:04:45 AM)

I doubt very much that 70% of those voting for this referendum have insurance. The issue is states rights and they do not want the feds dictating what they have to buy.

It used to be in Florida that you could post a bond in lieu of having vehicle insurance, particularly for motorcycles. I haven't kept up with whether that has changed so I'm not sure if it still is a valid option. However, under those laws, as long as Gates or Warren could post the bond, they might not have to purchase the insurance.

[... edited to add ...]

After rereading your post, I realize you were discussing health insurance and not vehicle insurance. Doh!

I don't know exactly what the law states. I know that, at present, I cannot afford health insurance of any kind, thus I have nothing to purchase it with. Despite my current lack of funds, I do not, either, wish it to be mandatory that everyone else who can afford their own insurance also be made to pay for mine because of the "everyone must be covered" mandate. That kind of choice... whether or not to help pay for someone else's health care... should be an individual's choice to make based upon their own set of beliefs, not morals set by law.

joether -> RE: Proposition C in Missouri (8/4/2010 11:07:48 AM)

I don't think this is about, what most think its about. The truth of health care law, the spirit of it, I mean, was to provide a method by which all Americans, could have a uniform health coverage. So that no one, slips between the cracks. Like the unemployed, VFW's, college students, and the eldarly. While some states (like the Commonwealth of Massachusetts), provide a health care system for these and other legal groups (read: US Citizens). Some agencies in those states that do not, try, vainly to help. The federal system would allow people to get health insurance, including those with conditions that the insurance companies would rather be off their books: like cancer, diabetes, other chronic health conditions. A person is not required to get health insurance, and can pay a fee to the IRS to do so. Its something like $750. So, if a person making $80K/year doesn't get insurance through their job, they could pick up a package, or, be an idiot and go without. Anyone making $80K/year, who doesnt have health insurance, should be examined closely by their employer for signs of stupidity.

No, this issue is about Selfish vs Compassion people. Missouri, with its 70% against and 30% for, is simply saying, there are 70% seflish people and 30% compassionate people. Not surprisingly, Missouri voted in 103 disctricts of 108 for the Republican in the last election (I'm pretty sure that was the number). I find, many conservatives display a selfish attitude, across the board on subjects. They seem to truely believe, that since they are selfish, everyone else has to be just as selfish as they are. They believe, due to this, that anyone not working, must me lazy, and has it has nothing to do with the economy. Not having health insurance, is due to one not working, and being lazy. I get this feedback from conservatives I've spoken with on health care.

Selfish people, will never understand, what compassionate people know:health care should be better for all, and not just a small percentage of the population. Since, the people who are for the health care law fell in to one of three categories:

A) A Person suffering a chronic, painful, or deadly/long term issue. Or could be two or more of those at once. Obviously, a person suffering from a painful disease or illness (like Severe Depression), would have problems working. Heck, they have problems just dealing with simple things in life. Ironically, selfish people are more likely to be suffering from Depression, then compassionate people. Its the compassionate people, that actually go an get treatment!

B) A love one, of a person, who is in category 'A' above. This person see's the person suffer on a daily, if not hourly basis. If they work, and the insurance also helps their love one, fine. But if the love one, was the bread winner, the household itself suffers.

C) The Medical Profession. Doctors, nurses, even the janitors see it every day. A person who is simply suffering, and no ability to get help for the issue. These people, will try their damness, to over come a system that is draconian towards Americans. Selfish people would look the other direction, while the compassionate would try find a way....any legal method, of helping the person. I've met a few medical doctors that are just plain selfish individuals. I dont do business with them after that. My own medical doctor, is, as we Bastians (Boston natives) say 'Wikked Awesome'. This guy is helping those who suffer all sorts of injuries and pains. He helped me, when I went through a few levels of Hell. You'll have no idea, what pain really means, until you had what I did. And I sure as heck, do not wish that on ANYONE.

The health care law, came with a price tag of $87.8 Billion a year, for ten years ($878 Billion). By using a process of limiting a dollar paid to the system, with another dollar through taxes, fees, or other methods, could it be made real. This accounted for over 75% of the total bill. The remainder of that, woudl be through other methods. In the end, the health care law costs the USA, just $24 billion. That's right, $24 billion/year for 10 years, is 'to much' according to selfish people (aka the majority of whom are conservative Republicans). That would solve alot of problems, and keep people from falling through the cracks. The Republicans, essentially stated, that the USA, could not afford $240 billion over ten years, and looked like idiots for doing it. SELFISH.....idiots.

I personally, do not believe health care is a right or a privilage for any one person. But a needed concept for better health. A needed concept, that supersedes both the 'right' and the 'privilaged'. So the question to any of you.....do you believe your selfish, or compassionate towards your fellow citizen?

Maybe because if you fall down and crack you head the governement mandates that the emergency room patch you back together.  Since the government and your fellow tax payers will be picking up that tab if you don't have insurance,  just maybe they expect have a voice in how that bill gets paid.

Every state requires a person to buy an ID to do any form of business, like banking.
