But that's true of EVERYONE in the world in varying degrees...There is NO normal. There is no necessity to be like everyone else.

i think our lives are acted upon by two opposing pressures- the pressure to conform, and the pressure to be ourselves. i think it's naive to say, just ignore the pressure to conform. It IS necessary to be like everyone else, to SOME degree. People who stray too far from the norm are locked up. And even for those who are not, being TOO different can be stressful. But, like you said, everyone experiences these feelings, not just me.

Having said that, if there is no "normal", then there is no "normal" degree of self confidence, no "normal" degree of insecurity, no "normal" degree of introspection, and no "normal" amount to want to talk about these problems. i think i do accept myself. Just not in the "normal" way.

pam

I think I like how you think pam.

I agree...There is no normal anything but so many of us speak from conformity's side when we talk. In some ways it's needed as you point out to make it in society without a whole lot of hassle...yet the other side of us wants to break free of what others think is okay...Not an easy task when so many are more than willing to let you know when they think you've stepped outside of the box.

You have to know yourself of course and have a steeled resolve to make your own way.

I always valued my uniqueness and never had a moment's worry about having different desires or ideas than people I knew.

I certainly do not feel damaged by my desires. I feel a tad damaged by events in my life the past few years, but those are things I will get over since I am a strong person.

I do not think that people in BDSM are damaged on the whole; one thing has nothing to do with the other. I cannot see being damaged as an asset in anything.

All that's good an well but I can imagine how she and others might have felt with dark desires around mainstream society.

Yes I kind of do, I don't know why I do some of the things I do.
I wish these thoughts and needs would leave me alone, its not easy being a male sub! Wish I could make a vanilla relationship work but I always tell partners about my submissive side and that changes things. Wish I didn't do that but it would feel so very dishonest.
So yes I'm damaged and a little bit stupid but I try to learn.

Can you explain what you mean by that? Are you saying that those with dark desires have trouble fitting into maintstream society and therefore are damaged?

I am puzzled by that since I don't find it difficult to be possessed of thoughts to such an extent that it would interfere with my living in mainstream society. I mean, I get up, I work, I interact with different kinds of people all day and I do my thing.

None of that is impacted negatively by dark desires. I devote more time to contemplating those dark desires when alone or even better, if I am connecting with someone who inspires those dark desires.

Lawn darts, not funny. I had one land in my back once when I was a teenager, pretty close to a kidney. It did some damage, and I have the scar to prove it, lol.

Sure no problem.
(Adding this cause I missed a question:) No I'm not saying anyone is damaged..although I will say it's highly possible that depending on the definition..We could all be damaged in a way..That's not what I was referring to though.

Simply put..some people deal with those dark desire on different levels..Some function like you or I in mainstream fairly easy, while others struggle with it a bit even if they are doing the same things we are on the outside..What's going on, on the inside may be something dissimilar.

Maybe those that hang onto what the world says is okay to think..Ya know..what family might think and so on and so on...To my mind there is no "real normal" but there is a collection of people who follow a certain "ideal" or similar ideals which make up a "moral majority"..that might find this place and the people who frequent here, appalling.

That happens

The ratio of horn-dog mass mailers and nutandrun proffesionals to women on these sites is a little off balance at times. Throw in a few other variables like youth and cuteness and you have a virtual feeding frenzy.
