Status: offline 		What good is it? Why does the site even cater to those that feel the need to express their political views? What positive thing has ever come out of this forum? Why does it need to be here?

It is easy to place within your profile your own personal political beliefs.

Have opinions been changed? Never.

Has animosity spilled over from P & R into other threads? Consistently.

There are literally hundreds of sites that will allow someone to air all their political beliefs, whether correct or unfounded. Why have it here? What does it really accomplish?

I would argue this site would run much more smoothly if it were removed.

I personally don't see personal attacks lessening. There are posters in this section that frequent no other part of CM. Other than their participation in the P&R section, they seem to have little if anything positive to add to the site.

If this political and religious forum were somewhat unique on this internetty thing I would never call for it's removal. However, it has been replicated hundreds of places elsewhere.

What makes CM unique is the type of relationships that are discussed on this site.

With it's removal and a new TOS against the discussion of politics, I think this site would run smoother. There was a time when discussing children was a rather large no-no. It was enforced and respected. It would be easy enough for moderators to pull posts that adress or attack a political ideology. If someone persists then they could enjoy a vacation.

Mr Gorbachev, tear down the P&R section.

Status: offline 		The difference is that it doesn't often get too heated in the "Off Topic Discussion" thread. If it does so be it.

The P & R section is a continual clusterfuck. Nothing is shared. Nothing is gleaned. No one has ever altered their beliefs. No one comes out there to share experiences or gain knowledge on a subject but to only further their own political ideologies at all costs.

Keep it a religious discussion forum if you must. Again, nothing good really comes out of those threads either.

There are plenty of other sites for folks to discuss their ridiculous political beliefs. Get rid of it.

Look at those that continually post out there and only post out there....Would they be missed?

Status: offline 		My issue with separating the two is that news stories that even might get controversial end up here. In my view the oil spill was not a political issue. It had major political overtones, but it also had scientific ones, economic side, etc etc etc.. War is also a news story, won't find those threads in the off topic area either. The off topic forum is supposed to be used for news stories, and it isn't because all news could have a political dimension.

This means that people who would contribute their thoughts to the news of the day are excluded if they do not want to deal with the R&P forum. For the life of me I do not see what religion and politics have to do with each other anyways, anymore than cooking and sewing are the same thing.

So, I see your point...

Status: offline 		When there was only the Off Topic Discussion forum, ALL discussions were the fucked up insult fest that P&R often can be.

Separating them was one of the best moves CM ever made.

Anybody missing content from OT can just shoot over here.

Status: offline 		Forgot to add I have learned from others on occasion or been forced to defend my positions and changed my opinions accordingly because of the knowledge I‘ve gained. No one just up and says the other is right but a lot of what is said eventually sinks in. Who knows when and if anyone from this forum may be in a position of power or will influence someone who is to make a good decision.

Even if only the power of one at the election booth.

Not everyone can watch a bloody boxing match and stand it.

I don`t agree with Domiguy about the futility of the P&R forum.

Not everyone who reads,gleans or "get`s" something makes posts.

Everything that was happening before P&R is still happening now,for better or for worse.

If you are going to threaten moderation for people who attack the poster and not the post...Then start doing it.

I now try and question the post and it's "truthiness" or accuracy and through this process disparaging the offending poster.

Cm, get rid of the fuck ups. Otherwise your word means nothing.

Status: offline 		Sometimes you learn about someone when they discuss these more intense beliefs, opinions and the like. For the most part this section bores me to smithereens disappointedly so. I would hope to expect some more in depth convo's but it is big babies acting pompous and ridiculous for the most part. Some peeps who post in P&R are cool and I found out they were by reading what they gots to say.

I have been shocked to find how hard headed and cold feeling some other folks are that I had gotten a different read on elsewhere.

I could pretty much care less either way. Although if forced to vote I would vote to keep it. I get entertained at times reading the things folks have to say about so-called politics and religion.

I have learned a coupla things but not always the obvious.

So much whatever going on for the most part though. Those peeps spouting the same tired crap int he same tired way makes it pretty boring down in P&Rville.

Status: offline 		I had that talk with one of the Mods this morning, Domi. I also understand there are alot of posts on CM at any given moment. They cannot possible read every post made here. Which is why there is a report button. If we expect them to do their job, we gotta help.

Status: offline 		I very much agree with you, Butch. I have learned quite a lot from the P&R posts and the replies I receive from other people, from their attitudes and viewpoints, especially when they diverge from mine.

And domiguy, you know the old saying or the one I am just creating: if you don't like the music you can always change the dial.

I would like to see a big reduction in flaming, however. I wish the Mod's would enforce that rule more stringently. I look for new ideas and viewpoints as I read through a thread and am too often disappointed to find nothing but insults flying back and forth. That is soooooo boring.

Otherwise..... NO! Keep this forum.

Off topic is the place where we are SUPPOSED to be able to talk about the news... read that forum's guidelines

Status: offline 		And I can't change the dial when someone enters a conversation promoting lies as facts. there are posters that consistently use this tactic as their everyday posting style and routine.

Other posters who have utilized these tactics in other threads are usually moderated.

I try and look at this in an unbiased light. I look at the threads as they are created and those who participate.

My friends have heated arguments about politics. But you get called on your bullshit.

Out here, once a poster is confronted with telling a lie or perpetuating a falsehood, that poster will then continue to cloud the lie with more unfounded comments and they are allowed to participate and distract all future threads in the exact manner.

How do you have an interesting discussion in that atmosphere?
