"When you are a public figure, it can be difficult to lead a private life. Despite the fact that much of this trip is paid for personally, the American people know that there are costs borne by the taxpayers and it's to be expected that the more expensive the trip, the greater the risk of criticism," McBride said.

while DC isnt that far from NY, i doubt i'd see any of the executives take a road trip by car or greyhound. and i could be wrong, but i doubt they would be keen on taking the train either. but what of overseas travel? The first lady and her children wouln't take a boat, so how else do you expect them to get there? Regardless if they were a normal family or not, they would have to take a plane. the secret service- mandetory. Your tax dollars aren't being wasted. They spent their own money to fund this trip. People who are related to royal families often spend time together while visiting another country. Michelle and her children are the royal family of the US. so why wouldn't they take a trip if its in their budget? thats like telling a cashier at the market not to take a trip to forida if they have the money. by being a shopper there, you in a very small way, contribute to their paycheck-the same as being a tax payer. are you seriously going to tell them how they should spend their money?
