Smoking in car declared 'child abuse' in UK...

I agree.   But I do not like any law for this.

what are your thoughts?

While it would seem to make sense, the only study on second hand smoke has been debunked.

THere is no proof that second and now third hand smoke is dangerous.

I would bring up the cite, but I don't have to anymore.

This isn't about facts.

I think it should be child abuse too, along with some other stuff, like feeding your still growing kids who're not of the age to make, buy cook or prepare or even object to eating what you provide, shitty food so that by the time they're 5 they weigh 200 pounds, parental neglect and poor lifestyle lead by poor parenting should be considered abuse in my opion too.

However, that being said,  We're loosing more and more of our freedoms and more and more is becoming regulated and controlled by law, and I really don't think that can be a good thing in the long run, and it can be a slippery slope.

What "rights" are going to be next. The hang mans noose is getting tighter and tighter.

Because the first persons lungs filter out all the bad stuff?....not that anywhere near 100% of cigarette smokegets inhaled by the person smoking it in the first place...

2 of my friends smoke.  They have been going to quit for the last 5 years.   Somehow they never do tho.

To the extent that his opinion is that bad behavior causes poor health decisions in children, that seems a bit far fetched and speculative to me. Harm or risk of harm is something that has happened or is very likely to happen, not something that is speculated to possibly happen in the future. If, however, one argues that the effects of second-hand smoke are harming the child, that actual harm or risk of harm would presumably be shown by medical testimony. It seems odd to me that some of us question the rights of the state to criticise the parenting a child receives, and it seems strange to me that we sometimes get itchy when the state decides to act to enforce good parenting by (for example) legislating against passive smoking; and yet we seem quite happy to put up with corporations selling poisons and foods which may injure our health. In fact, we defend the rights of corporations to poison us and our environment by shouting 'freedom of choice!' very loudly. It's mad.

It won't play well with many I suspect, but I think the role of the state is to help protect us from the corporations and individuals who act against our interests in order to further their own ends. For this reason, I am absolutely behind any legislation which can protect the individual from harm. That includes legislating against passive smoking, and ideally legislating against tobacco companies. If you want to smoke, that's fine - grow your own and smoke it where it isn't going to harm anyone but you. But I am not happy with a corporation making a profit out of it, any more than I would be if a corporation started to market heroin or cocaine to kids.

@Hertz, fuck it....if people want to take drugs let them....where dya draw the line? Heroin? cocaine? alcohol? smoking? toking? coffee? chocolate? magic mushrooms? salt?

There's a big difference between people choosing to do something themselves, and forcing it on other people.

How about insurance companies and title 19 refuse to pay for treatment of all respiratory problems those children will suffer, instead. No treatment for asthma, no treatment for bronchitis, or pneumonia. Sounds like a winner of an idea to me!!!
