Friday night, I will be in Austin and using Foxfire which has a spell checker.

If I mispell(?) a word I will use this sign (?) to show that it is a questionable spelling.

Believe me, I have chewed the cud keeping my tongue still.  I understand learning disablities, ESL, or using a free translator(?).  If the person does not tell me any of the 3 items for having strange sentencing, I will still chew on my tongue until it gets bad.

If the person who is on the hiding button from me, I just don't give a damn whatsoever he/she/it has to say.  All he/she/it is doing is digging themselves a deeper hole in the ground.

Hey, OP, it's spelled "all right". [8D][8D]

DesFIP -> RE: Is it alright to insult someone for spelling of grammatical error and if not why... (8/17/2010 2:47:33 PM)

When you say all right do you actually mean if it is permissable at this site? Because if so, the answer is yes. There is nothing written in the TOS that prohibits people from correcting others when they are in error. No matter if the error is spelling or grammar, or safety in an edgy technique, or fact checking.

Next time read the TOS and you will know what is allowed and what is not.

Then I misunderstand what the poster means.

I think it depends on the person your speaking with.  If your just out to insult someone from behind a computer then no it's not alright, because your a pussy.  If your out to help someone then yes.  If someone's being an asshole to you, then sure all is fair.
I give respect to the people that respect me, If you come to me with an attitude I won't respect a thing you say, or care about your childish insults.  Respect is earned on all ends, and if you don't give it, you don't get it.  Some people can't convey grammar and punctuation perfectly, especially if they're from another country.  It's funny this post is up, and some sub, unknown to me, writes to me today to tell me, I didn't use correct grammar when I used the word "you're" in my profile.  Never have I spoken to him, or seen him around here.  So my answer was, simply, "and your contacting me why?"  I think if your going to pick at someone for their flaws check yourself first, from head to toe, then feel free to bitch about someone else and the flaws they have.

I try not to be a spelling demon. I am a good typist, but I make mistakes. I am an excellent speller, but after years of teaching it, I know that spelling is a knack that not everyone gets. Hence the need for spell check. My pet peeve is folks that use the apostrophe to pluralize! Makes me [:@][:@][:@] Funny thing, I am not the forum proofreader! I am more interested in the content of a post, and the intellect behind it, than whether the person is 100% with their grammar and spelling.

It should be obvious from the previous paragraph that I am free with my grammar on a casual message board!

When someone is using textspeak, not using basic things like punctuation, or doing something that makes the post unreadable, then I will point it out IF I feel the need to read what is being said. More often than not, I will just pass on by.

Don't get me started on the lack of paragraphs...

No...for some reason, while using Firefox spell checker, You are typing about a Gizmo and it thinks that you are trying to type gizzards.

Hey, OP, it's spelled "all right". [8D][8D]

really now? History lesson for you.

Main Entry: al·right Pronunciation: \(ˌ)ȯl-ˈrīt, ˈȯl-ˌ\Function: adverb or adjective Date: 1887 : all rightusage The one-word spelling alright appeared some 75 years after all right itself had reappeared from a 400-year-long absence. Since the early 20th century some critics have insisted alright is wrong, but it has its defenders and its users. It is less frequent than all right but remains in common use especially in journalistic and business publications. It is quite common in fictional dialogue, and is used occasionally in other writing <the first two years of medical school were alright — Gertrude Stein>

Only if they spell [Awaiting Approval] wrong.
