We aren't at your job here and it's not anyone's place to do so. If they're doing it here..They aren't trying to be helpful, now are they. How small of a person do you have to be to do this to a stranger after you think you've seen something in them you don't care for. People can make it out to be anything they want to but it's petty behavior. If you've done it own up to it.

I'll own up to it: I've done it here, but usually only when it's so bad that I have trouble reading what they're saying, so usually I'm bitching about paragraphing or lack of punctuation, rather than spelling. Unless they boast about being a professional writer or something similar, when I consider them fair game for bitchy nitpicking whether their writing as a whole is hard to read or not.

Some people are hardwired to do it and some not. I'm not hardwired to do it compulsively, otherwise this place would be a mess of red pen. As the corrections seem to be done to people who I believe deserve mocking and whose opinion I don't care about (usually because they have shown themselves to be a complete asshole over an extended period of time) then my care factor on their reaction and that of others, isn't high either. It's petty of them not to suck it up and improve their language skills, really.
