An interesting view as to what is within the same distance from "ground zero" as the "mosque" would be.

http://daryllang.com/blog/4421

Sarah Palin wrote that, “it would be an intolerable and tragic mistake to allow such a project sponsored by such an individual to go forward on such hallowed ground.”

Look at the photos. This neighborhood is not hallowed. The people who live and work here are not obsessed with 9/11. The blocks around Ground Zero are like every other hard-working neighborhood in New York, where Muslims are just another thread of the city fabric.

At this point the only argument against this project is fear, specifically fear of Muslims, and that’s a bigoted, cowardly and completely indefensible position.

I asked previously whatt he families had to say. Here... i think they are speaking.

9/11 Families Applaud President Obama's Support of Religious Freedom

August 14th, 2010

New York, NY, Aug. 14 -- September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows applauds President Barack Obama for his statement in support of the building of a mosque near Ground Zero. On that day, members of our organization paid the ultimate price. We lost loved ones in the tragic attacks, attacks perpetrated by criminals. Our losses will never be redeemed; our wounds will never fully heal. On 9/11/2001 while many of us buried our loved ones we also took heart in our nation's principles and our rule of law. Ours is a nation that fights for religious freedom. Many of us who call ourselves Americans do so because we came to escape religious persecution in other lands.

We applaud President Obama for his leadership on this issue. Simply put:
we lost our family members on 9/11/2001, but will not lose our nation, too. America, the concept and the people and the land thrive when we chose to trust in our principles rather than cave to our basest fears.

What better place for healing, reconciliation and understanding than Ground Zero? We honor our family members by practicing American principles and moving forward from Ground Zero to a future of peaceful coexist

IF the site was across the street from ground zero, I could MAYBE see the point, It is two blocks away and not even visible from ground zero.

The simple truth is that NO ONE, Republican, conservative or whatever had a problem with the planned development of the property until just in the last two months.

Bullshit, it stands above all of the other buildings on the street, and is only less than 1/8 of a mile, line of sight from ground zero.

What isn't getting through to you? Are you really this naive? The Imam is getting financed by HAMAS, He is NOT a friend of the U.S.and yet you embrace him like a second cousin, why?

So right and wrong have no place in your political world?

There is only the party? As long as the party is victorious it is ok?

Of course not.

But there is the legal right/wrong and the moral right/wrong.
They have the legal right to build there.
But it is morally wrong not to condemn the CORDOBA mosque as anything but giving America the Islamic finger, and America knows it.

Pretty much everyone has given you the finger at one time or another.

When did we become such a nation of pussies? Get over yourself.

These are American citizens who want to build a church. Get over it.

Fucking pussies. If you can't handle being an American get the fuck out!!!

These colors don't run!!! Freedom isn't free!!!

Pussies.

The British fought and killed many of us. I want every Episcopalian church destroyed!

The Germans killed tens of thousands of us. Goodbye you Lutheran fucks!

The Japanese bombed us moments after they delivered a declaration of war.
I am going to piss all over the next Shinto shrine I see.

I love AMERICA!

Don't you UNDERSTAND!!!!!

"There is a race war against Arabs. But our people - my Muslim brothers and sisters - will stay committed to a non-violent resolution. That resolution must consist of solidarity in Muslim communities around the world. The hatred for our children and their future is growing and is being fueled every single day. Stay firm in your convictions. Keep loving your heritage and keep witnessing to others that there is a better way than a war torn, violent, wicked, socialist, new world order. That way is the Muslim way - law and order - love of family - love of nation. These are the principles of Middle Eastern Muslim civilization. There is a war to destroy these things. Pray that our people see the error of their ways and regain a sense of loyalty. Repent America! Be faithful my fellow believers. "

No, you dont get it. See, in the USA, we require PROOF or EVIDENCE, regarding an accusation. You, are making an accusation. So, its fair for you, to present the burdern of evidence to support your claim. I'm sure the State Department, would like to look at the information, or at the very least, the F.B.I. So, either you have actual, tangible, verifiable proof....OR.....you are lying. So, which is it?

That is what conservatives and Republicans lack: PROOF. The guys building this community center, are US Citizens. Republicans want to deny US Citziens their 1st Amendment rights. Does THAT, sound the American thing, to do?

Here is an aerial photo of where 51 Park Pl. would be located.  http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=New+York&state=NY&address=51+Park+Pl&zipcode=10007-2404&country=US&latitude=40.713499&longitude=-74.00979&geocode=ADDRESS

I don't know which side of the street 51 would sit on, but as anyone can clearly see there would be at least one and possibly two HUGE buildings that a person would have to be able to see through for it to be "line of site."  (If you scroll down and to the left you can see where the Twin Towers stood.)  I'm not sure how tall these buildings are, but a person would have to be at the very top of the proposed Mosque to have a chance to see ground zero...if even then.

Yeah, we have hardly killed any in Iraq or Iran.

Youve got it backwards..the point is whether you can see the mosque from the new WTC when its built. Obviously it will be from the upper stories regardless of how tall the buildings on Barclay are.

The anticipation is killing me. Will it be more made up gibberish or something gleaned from a blog? Can hardly contain my enthusiam.

I guess I must be off of "block."

I have not read the thread. The topic has occupied my brain for less than 3 minutes since it became an issue.

The mosque should be built wherever it is legally able to be built.

Though I am curious to see how many of these guys are actually gonna show up at the site to work.

You gotta love New Yorkers....

"L.V. Spina, a Manhattan construction worker who created anti-mosque stickers that some workers are slapping on their hardhats, said he would "rather pick cans and bottles out of trash cans" than build the Islamic center near Ground Zero.....

.....Spina, who sells 9/11 apparel on his website, said he's printed thousands of stickers and plans to produce thousands more."

I got a feeling this guy would build anything if the price was right. What if it cut into his profiteering off the corpses of the 3,000?

What says you will never forget more than a 9-11 cribbage board?

You gotta love capitalism!!!

Overview
The United States has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the industrialized world.

Yes, what is your point?

quote:

ORIGINAL: subrob1967
One in four teenage girls in the U.S. has an STD, according to the Centers for Disease Control. In Wisconsin, the rate of four of the most commonly reported STDs among teens jumped 53 percent between 1997 and 2007. Females and minorities, especially African-Americans, have been hit hard. And these are numbers that have been reported; actual cases may be much higher. But it remains a hidden epidemic, not just because many STDs have no symptoms, but because of the stigma and politics that complicate efforts to fight them.

I marked that section in bold because it shows that conservatives are a cause of this problem.

Now the 1946 statistic you're talking up may just have something to do with all the military guys returning home after WWII...Just sayin.

Um I never said anything about a 1946 statistic, I haven't gotten around to looking up numbers for them from the 50's-present. Sadly you haven't either.

Why are we in Iraq again? Oh yeah, they were a state that sponsored terrorist groups...Silly us[8|]

Again, who's saying they can't build there? This is NOT a constitutional issue, Nobody is denying them to build yet another Mosque in NYC.

Kinda hard to cite a source when the Imam refuses to release his fund raising documentation.
