State rights is supposed to be a pillar of conservative ideology. What ever happened to that?

None of the Muslims I know in the US supports to turn America into an Islamic theocracy. Actually, one of them is openly homosexual AND a Muslim, so he'll be supporting his own stoning if he believes the literal truth of the Koran. Which is not surprising, since getting out of theocracy is why they immigrated to the US in the first place. D'Oh. A surprising study in Europe, on the other hand, found that Jihadists did not go to the mosque to be radicalized; they become radicalized in GYMS. Should we ban the building Gyms, now? Report of the Official Account of the Bomings in London on 7th July, 2005.

You have to admit that since the 60's progressive movement the U.S. has seen quite a dramatic rise in STD's, teen pregnancies, drug abuse, and violent crime, but there can't be any correlation, now can there?

As comments go, this is as stupid as they get. Congratulations on exceding my low expectations.

Lucylastic -> RE: Obama Makes Clear His Support for Mosque in near 9/11 (8/19/2010 1:31:28 PM)

And the catholic church keeps hiding pedophiles and denying abortions to 9 year olds.... whats your point?

Would you agree with parents having total control over what their children are taught?

Faith schools teach their religion like fact- surely this needs to be moderated, and a real religious education brought in as standard, across the world? Indoctrination should not be tolerated.

Obviously if the parents decided to send their kids to a faith based school, they would approve of the curriculum, since they're private, and the parents chose to pay the tuition's...Dontcha think?

Of course the PARENTS think it's right, but is it morally fair for the governments to allow any religion to be taught in schools as fact? My argument is that parents should NOT have total control, because frankly, I'd rather have actual teachers deciding what is fact and what is fiction within school systems. Not to mention that people are willing to lie about their child's faith to get them into a high performance school.

Religion as faith should be left to the church and home. It is not fair to children to deny them the chance to learn about faiths without bias. Religious Education is neutral on curricula for good reason- and I honestly think it is indoctrination to teach otherwise.

No, that's NOT my culture, I don't believe in the invisible deity, believe homo's should be able to marry, could care less what Obama's spirituality is, or a woman's right to choose to murder their child.

That is your culture though, when you're viewing it in terms of "the western world" vs "the Islamic world" - I mean I don't think you think of some 38 year old baker living in a suburb of Riyadh with his wife and 2 kids when you think of "the Muslim world."

quote:

MY culture believes that Americans have the freedom to speak out against prop 8, believe in God, or not, go to jail for bombing abortion clinics (and I can guarantee you my sentencing would be much harsher than your typical lefty) and parents have the right to choose what their kids are taught in school.

Yeah I agree that fundamentalist theocracy is totally mental, I'm just trying to draw a distinction between "Islam" and "fundamentalist Islamic states" because the issue isn't the religion but rather the implementation.

While he didn't express it in a terribly diplomatic manner he does have a point. You really should do some research and put some more thought into your beliefs. It took me about 30 seconds on google to notice you were wrong about pregnancy rates. I started there because it was pretty obvious that the invention of the pill would make the number of unwanted pregnancies go down.

Politesub53 -> RE: Obama Makes Clear His Support for Mosque in near 9/11 (8/20/2010 4:28:02 PM)

My post wasnt even about the fact his facts are wrong. It was his claim it was all down to progressives, as if Republicans dont ever take drugs and such.

Just take Syphilis, 1946 95,000 cases reported in the US. 2008 13,000 cases.

Full marks for noticing I am not a diplomat btw......[;)]

Those were all liberals.

Conservatives only fuck when they want to make a baby, as the good Lord intended.

That and your previous post look to be a bit of a strawman of his position, I think he's claiming that being progressive makes one more likely to do such things not that republicans have never done such things.

My question for subrob is since there's actually been a drastic decrease in the rate of teen pregnancies following the progressive movement, does that mean there's a "correlation" [;)] between the Conservative movement and teen pregnancy?

Overview
The United States has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the industrialized world. The Center for Disease control says that one-third of girls get pregnant before the age of 20. Teenpregnancy.org, a site managed by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, states that there are "750,000 teen pregnancies annually. Eight in ten of these pregnancies are unintended and 81 percent are to unmarried teens."

quote:

One in four teenage girls in the U.S. has an STD, according to the Centers for Disease Control. In Wisconsin, the rate of four of the most commonly reported STDs among teens jumped 53 percent between 1997 and 2007. Females and minorities, especially African-Americans, have been hit hard. And these are numbers that have been reported; actual cases may be much higher. But it remains a hidden epidemic, not just because many STDs have no symptoms, but because of the stigma and politics that complicate efforts to fight them.

Now the 1946 statistic you're talking up may just have something to do with all the military guys returning home after WWII...Just sayin.

One question, If a mosque is an affront to the memory of those people who died on 9/11, then what about the two strip clubs within blocks of ground zero?

IF the site was across the street from ground zero, I could MAYBE see the point, It is two blocks away and not even visible from ground zero.

The simple truth is that NO ONE, Republican, conservative or whatever had a problem with the planned development of the property until just in the last two months.
