I've no problem with it at all.

I believe in freedom of religioun. One of the things this country was founded on.

Not even American, and I am not ok with it.

I don't care what anybody believes re: religion, but to use a cliche, what about some fricking cultural sensitivity here.

To put a Mosque of the religion championed by the fucktards responsible for 9\11 is, to my eyes, tantamount to saying they won... pissing on ya grave, doesn't matter how you dress it up, it's wrong and insensitive.

You folks do realize that Osama bin Laden and his group are also at war with Saudi Arabia, home to Mecca?

Stop listening to the rabid right and look at things for what they are. Islam is not coming to get you.

For one, they'd do a better job, especially with the amount of oil they control--and that's just Arabia.

So a controversial group within Islam wants to build a community center. Who the fuck cares. Without the right whipping this into an issue so they have something to get people to the polls in November in lieu of any solutions no one would even know.

Know why 9/11 was so successful? Because of the bizarre overreaction of the U.S. We have followed the leader to cost ourselves trillions, doing far more damage to ourselves than legions of terrorists could have accomplished, and the political right seized the frenzy to push their agenda in foreign policy and in domestic bids for power. Wake up America.

Although I am not American and disagree with a great deal of what goes on over the pond I am totally against this building going up.

It is a slap in the face for the cultural and religious history of the country, which was founded by Christians.

Why do we seem to buckle at the knees and give way every time an ethnic minority want something that the majority find offensive? Why do politicians think appeasement is the best way forward? History teaches us it is not and the strong are those that survive.

The insidious nature of the take over of our culture both sides of the Atlantic is worrying and we should all unite to prevent any further erosion.

I don't approve, but not for the reasons most have cited.

1) To deny them their mosque on "religious grounds" would be a slap in the face of every American soldier who served, fought, or died defending this country.

2) To allow this mosque would be a poke in the eye of Osama Bin Laden. His goal was to get the US to declare war in Islam. Allowing the mosque to built would be thumbing our nose at him.

3) Polls have shown that few people in NYC give a rat's behind.

4) The people decrying this are little more than carpetbaggers trying to score political points.

Yes, it is incredibly insensitive to build it there. But no more so than building a Catholic Church near a grade school.

My real issue is the fact that as a religious site it will be exempt from property tax. How much will that cost NYC over the next 10 years? I firmly believe in the separation of church and state but I also feel religious real estate should not be tax-free. Also, how much additional costs will be incurred by NYC PD to protect this mosque from the inevitable vandalism?

The whole thing stinks like yesterday's diaper.

1) No, it wasn't. Another myth propagated by the revisionist right. They were Deists, and had seen the damage Christian sects would do when in control of governments.

2) We call it the Constitution. Buckle? It's precisely about protecting the rights of the minority, whether ethnic, political, geographic, and so forth. It takes stronger, more secure and tolerant people to wish to govern this way. Crushing opponents is the realm of dictatorships; we choose another way.

3) Clearly politicians aren't unilaterally for appeasement, as the majority have spoken out against this. Why? To appease the majority. Is this leadership? This is about a popular election in November. Period.

Yes, I believe in our constitution. I'd really like to get back to it at some point in this country, though I don't think that will happen in my lifetime.

They have won in my opinion. However, it was one hater and one hate group he ran who attacked us. Not an entire country.

The country who is harboring him has won. We are funding them for us to even be on our soil. We won't go into areas they don't want us in. What more can we do for them?
