FR: First off, Ixtoc I was not "worse" than Deepwater Horizon. It only takes two and a half seconds to pull up the numbers. But let me help you out. Deepwater Horizon: April 20, 2010 – 02010-07-15July 15, 2010: Barrels: 4,100,000-4,300,000.......That's approx. 35000 barrels/day Ixtoc I: June 3, 1979 – March 23, 1980: Barrels: 3,329,000–3,520,000........That's approx. 10667 barrels/day If some retarded ass on a news station wants to start telling anybody that the environment can stand almost three times as much oil being dumped upon the ecosystem in three months is "less" than the Ixtoc I spill (let's not get into the difference in terms of toxicity because of dispersants used), and so "it's not so bad", they don't deserve to have their jobs. And any dumb ass not willing to take the two seconds to confirm that information and just repeats it, is, as they say, an empty, talking head. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_spill Yeah, yeah it's wiki. Whatever, the numbers and dates given are also supported by: ^ Campbell Robertson /Clifford Krauss (2 August 2010). "Gulf Spill Is the Largest of Its Kind, Scientists Say". It wasn't until the late-1980s that the population of Kemp's Ridley turtles, which lay a couple of hundred eggs a year, as opposed to the millions produced by shrimp, started recovering. The immediate losses from an oil spill continue to ricochet through larger species for generations. ^ Glenn Garvin (2010-06-27). "After big 1979 spill, a stunning recovery". The News Observer. http://www.newsobserver.com/2010/06/13/530250/after-big-1979-spill-a-stunning.html. Retrieved 14 July 2010. "This stuff is poison," Quintana said. "It's going to go everywhere. We saw this happen in '79." ...... The spill wiped out fishing along the Mexican coast for about two years. Sea turtles and dolphins also suffered. The Kemp's ridley sea turtle, which spends much of its life in the Gulf of Mexico, was nearly driven extinct. Scientists dug up hundreds of oil-covered turtle eggs and flew them to cleaner beaches in an attempt to save them. http://www.blogforarizona.com/blog/2010/05/ixtoc-i-to-deepwater-horizon-the-more-things-change-the-more-they-stay-the-same.html In short, do some fuckin research before saying stupid shit people. boi
