Have we ever had a stoning of an adulterous (or not) woman in this country organized by a Muslim religious leader?

There have been numerous "honor killings", although I don't know of any with stoning as cause of death.

mnottertail -> RE: Islamophobia in America (8/25/2010 7:06:26 AM)

well, the Hmong do it, they are not muslim.

the honor killings are not a muslim thing per se, they are cultural.

Yep, they are cultural, but motivated from different reasons. In the Hmong, whom I took a look at some time ago at your suggestion, the reason for such murders usually is the financial consequences of divorce.

mnottertail -> RE: Islamophobia in America (8/25/2010 7:15:59 AM)

nope, they did that in the old country and they do it here, and don't give the glimmer of a fuck if they get caught.  I don't buy financial.

in any case, case and point.

Various cultures on the Indian subcontinent also engage in "honor killings"
(personally, I dont see a DAMN thing honorable about killing a woman)

mnottertail -> RE: Islamophobia in America (8/25/2010 7:21:52 AM)

agreed, but it is kinda HAWT to slap them around, though.

I did not know about that. Interesting. I would appreciate it if you could name them, please.

It has happened (not commonly but often enough to be of note) that if an insufficient dowry is offered, the prospective bride has been killed by the groom and/or his family.

I would consider this an "honor killing"

Some might not.

I'd consider that a greedy bastard killing and consider the society that allowed it as one that needed to review the term barbarism.

I do not consider such an 'honor killing'. These people unfortunately live without the teachings of Jesus and Saint Paul; they live without grace. Neither does the commandment 'Thou shalt not kill' have any meaning for them.

'Are You Muslim?' Question Leads to Cabbie Stabbing, Hate Crime Charge

A New York City cab driver was attacked Tuesday evening just after 6 p.m. by a passenger who asked him if he was Muslim, says the NYPD.

According to police, passenger Michael Enright, a 21-year-old from Brewster, New York, hailed a taxi at 24th Street and Second Avenue in Manhattan driven by Ahmed Sharif, a resident of Queens.

As the cab headed north on Third Avenue, Enright allegedly asked Sharif, who is of South Asian origin, "Are you Muslim?" When Sharif confirmed that he was Muslim, police say, Enright stabbed him multiple times with a Leatherman knife.

As I have said, Muslims have more to fear in the United States than any other religious group.

That is easily stopped: Stop murdering women and convert to Christianity. Jesus and Saint Paul are the way out of the barbarity these and other peoples embrace.

Oh i do hope you are being facetious and not genuine, although I fear that I am mistaken in this belief.

I kind of recall something events called the crusades. Hmmmm. Lots of murder, rape and torture by christians in the name of god during those time frames. Also the inquisition, the salem witch trials. Hmmmmm.

mnottertail -> RE: Islamophobia in America (8/25/2010 1:20:26 PM)

To say nothing of the decimation of Norway.

I'm just curious how many religions or civilizations for that matter you know of that did not engage in war, or slavery, or invade other folks at some point in their history.

ScaryJello -> RE: Islamophobia in America (8/25/2010 1:33:12 PM)

At StrangerThan

All religions and civilizations have. I haven't said one was better then the other. I was poking fun at the hypocrisy of his statement. So try rereading my post.

I read it just fine. It is the same crock of shit statement that is always used to defend the religion most associated with violence in the world today, not to mention archaic treatment of women.

So how about some hypocrisy.

jlf1961 -> RE: Islamophobia in America (8/25/2010 1:37:01 PM)

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

According to Rule, that is unless you are Muslim

'Honor killings' in USA raise concerns
Updated 11/30/2009 1:42 PM

[snip]Muslim immigrant men have been accused of six "honor killings" in the United States in the past two years, prompting concerns that the Muslim community and police need to do more to stop such crimes.[snip]

[snip] Phyllis Chesler, who wrote about honor killings in her book Woman's Inhumanity to Woman, says police need to focus on the crimes' co-conspirators if they wish to reverse the trend. Before 2008, there were six honor killings in the USA in the previous 18 years, according to her research.[snip]

Now there is an average of 16,204 murders according to the latest figures, which is for 2009. Some how I dont think they were all committed by Muslims and non-Christians.
