President Obamas speech in Cairo ...
he stated
Now part of this conviction is rooted in my own experience. I'm a Christian, but my father came from a Kenyan family that includes generations of Muslims. As a boy, I spent several years in Indonesia and heard the call of the azaan at the break of dawn and at the fall of dusk. As a young man, I worked in Chicago communities where many found dignity and peace in their Muslim faith.

Could you please point out the part where he states he is muslim
Did he sign language it?
According to Kim Lehman who is an RNC committee member ....he told muslims he is a muslim during the speech
she tweeted...@politico, you're funny. They must pay you a lot to protect Obama, BTW he personally told the muslims that he IS a muslim. Read his lips.

Why the lies? this isnt simply mispeaking, this isnt dumb people misunderstanding, this is an out and out easily refutable bunch of crap, so....please discuss.

Because lies are all they have Lucy. Its pure fearmongering fed to the hungry Republican voters.

willbeurdaddy -> RE: The damage being done (8/23/2010 4:22:28 PM)

Its already covered in another thread

vincentML -> RE: The damage being done (8/23/2010 4:31:42 PM)

It is a tried and true tactic, Lucy. As I said on another thread Lincoln was called a Catholic in 1860 when antiCatholism and antiPapism were all the rage. FDR was called a Jew when the nation had a well established tradition of antisemitism. And now Obama is called a Muslim amidst antiMuslim hysteria. That's what we do during mass hysteria. Reminds of the internment of Japanese-Americans during WWII. These folks, these fearmongers as politesub reminds us, conveniently forget GW Bush's admonition that we are not at war with Islam. It is a bitter electorate and they are mad as hell and not going to take it anymore. "IT" is vague and ill-defined.

Hi Lucy

The problem stems from a change made during the Clinton administration to the FCC regulations. It used to be that any news station had to broadcast the opposing viewpoint at some point in their broadcast schedule. This forced news stations to give at least some lip service to the thought of balanced reporting. It wasn't great, but it's certainly better than what we have now which is Fox "News" 24/7. Combine this with a relaxation of anti trust laws, and we have a media monopoly which is squelching dissent with ridicule and rumor and using marketing muscle to wipe out the competition.

The Fox Corporation has taken a page out of Herr Goebbels book- feed people a steady diet of propaganda, and sooner or later, they begin to believe it. I find it incredible how much of Fox "News" is sheer fabrication, yet is swallowed hook line and sinker by the populace, even though these statements are easily refuted. But if you live in an area which is only served by Fox "News", then it would require some active searching to find more accurate sources- and most people are too lazy to do so. So they listen to Fox religiously and are convinced that they are well informed about the state of the world- ignoring even the evidence of their own sons and daughters reporting from the front lines in Iraq that whatever claptrap they'd heard was wildly wrong.

I know people that after a steady diet of Fox "News" are convinced that they have a good handle on the world and fail to see the obvious hypocrisy and distortion.

Cheers,

Sam

I wonder why GW hasn't spoken out on this issue to remind everyone of his friendship with the Saudi royalty ... yanno, hand holding and all. Seriously, GW had a very tolerent philosophy.

But here is a guy who has spoken out. Here are a few snips from Ron Paul's statement on the issue:

sunshine-patriots-stop-your-demagogy

[SNIP]

The debate should have provided the conservative defenders of property rights with a perfect example of how the right to own property also protects the 1st Amendment rights of assembly and religion by supporting the building of the mosque.

Instead, we hear lip service given to the property rights position while demanding that the need to be “sensitive” requires an all-out assault on the building of a mosque, several blocks from “ground zero.”

[SNIP]

In my opinion it has come from the neo-conservatives who demand continual war in the Middle East and Central Asia and are compelled to constantly justify it.

They never miss a chance to use hatred toward Muslims to rally support for the ill conceived preventative wars.

[SNIP]

If it became known that 9/11 resulted in part from a desire to retaliate against what many Muslims saw as American aggression and occupation, the need to demonize Islam would be difficult if not impossible.

[SNIP]

The justification to ban the mosque is no more rational than banning a soccer field in the same place because all the suicide bombers loved to play soccer.

[SNIP]

It is repeatedly said that 64% of the people, after listening to the political demagogues, don’t want the mosque to be built. What would we do if 75% of the people insist that no more Catholic churches be built in New York City? The point being is that majorities can become oppressors of minority rights as well as individual dictators. Statistics of support is irrelevant when it comes to the purpose of government in a free society—protecting liberty.

"Bzzzzzzzzzzt......Wrong answer Hans, care to play double jeopardy where the scores can really change"

The narcoleptic pinhead (ronzo) was the president that made the changes to the FCC that did away with the "fairness Doctrine".  Get it right.

You know, I live in Canada, so I only get 'local' Vermont/New Hampshire channels.

I'd have to say that the Vermont version of fox news is quite reasonable.

thornhappy -> RE: The damage being done (8/23/2010 6:28:50 PM)

The local stations are much different from the cable channel.

Yo Knucklehead

Should have checked Wikipedia before posting- you're right, the Fairness Doctrine was overturned in 1987. Did Die Hard come out that year as well?

Thanks,

Sam

Fast Reply -

I started to post but vincentML already said it very well. I will add, think of the fear about JFK being an Irish Catholic or all the hoopla over someone serving in politics who is Jewish or Atheist.

Die Hard was 1988, but close enough for government work.

President Obama:

.....And I'm also proud to carry with me the goodwill of the American people, and a greeting of peace from Muslim communities in my country:  Assalaamu alaykum.

It's right there in red.

That's secret Muslim code for I'm going to destroy America and turn it into an Islamic dictatorship.

When will you liberals wake up?

It may have escaped your attention but US foreign policy affect us as well. Thats why so many of our soldiers are returning home dead or missing a limb or two.

I wont even remind you this is a public message board open for all, and not just bigots. Opps I just did, silly me.

The fairness Doctrine was dismantled/repealed by the FCC during the Reagan administration, even though many on his staff evidently thought doing so would hurt him politically; from wiki:
"The only thing that really protects you from the savageness of the three networks — every day they would savage Ronald Reagan — is the Fairness Doctrine, and Fowler is proposing to repeal it"

Fox comes closest to meeting Fairness Doctrine standards, usually presenting both side of an issue. Which is why the purely partisan media you extol is dying.

First of all, I don';t believe Obama is muslim. Nor do I really care. Having said that, Obama confuses the issue himself with verbal slips, or what ever you want to call them. Verbal slips as a phrase tends to imply that he's lying but that's the phrasing used in some of the news reports. So its not just outright made up shit about him.

There are a couple of instances being touted as verbal slips. One is with Stephanopolus, the other with Brian Williams wherein Obama spoke of his muslim faith and was corrected both times by the reporters.

Here's a link to one story

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/sep/07/obama-verbal-slip-fuels-his-critics/

I couldn't find a link to the other but it is mentioned in several places. Shrug.

Why it matters and doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if he's muslim. It does matter if he lied, just like it mattered that Bush lied. After all of that I think it's one of those much ado about nothing debates. I also think the right will ride it for all its worth and in the arguments and finger pointing, the chasm between left and right will only get deeper.

Sanity -> RE: The damage being done (8/24/2010 6:44:35 AM)

The thing that strikes me about the noncontroversy is how the left would dearly love to criminalize the reporting of such trivial yet negative facts about a president. You can spew all the hate you would like about the one president then this other guy comes along and all the reporting had better be positive or youll lose your broadcasting license.

There should be one standard for all, and I like to lean heavily on the side of free speech myself, even if I dont agree with it.
