I agree, you need to have the elevator speech and the position paper filled out on that ahead of time, and take it in stride, hopefully (like in minnesota) unless you are sucking someone off in the minneapolis airport, sex is still a private matter.

Hopefully, your official views and positions do not involve same sex marraige and crap that are invasions in the first place, and more about fiscal responsibility, growing the community, all the bread and butter stuff.

The question really is this,

Are you prepared to accept what will come if any of these thoughts and activity surface?  You could wind up with a full attack on your character, morals, values, and worth as a person.  Everyone will now know not just those you choose.  That won't end with the campaign.

I actually discovered this point first hand recently when I still had my ishy. I was more open with her publically but still kept the facts of her role somewhat shielded and wow did the rumors run wild in the community. At first it seemed it was going to be a terrible thing, but it is starting to be more positive going forward. People are realizing much of it was meaningless conjecture and unfounded rumor. In some things they were right and they are now coming to the conclusion that we didn't hurt anyone, it was the rumors and noise made by those that may have had agendas that caused the biggest issues.

So that could be a plus..............someday.

Run, Bull, run!!! The more people of your insight and intelligence our country has in elected office, the better!

As far as the lifestyle choices, pull your picture down from this site and any others, and have a well-crafted statement about the exercise of individual liberties and the pursuit of happiness tucked away if you absolutely need it. If somebody brings up these things as a weapon against you/your campaign, respond first by attacking their dirty tricks. Hell, we have a local challenger for a state office who is trying to turn her recently revealed massive personal debt and bankruptcy filing into a qualification to address California's budget mess.

Thanks for the moral support Heretic, and I do think I should take part. We need more people of noble character (which I continuously aspire to possess), broad thinking and less selfish motives to partake in the process. Do any of you ever wonder how many politicians start out with good intent and then get lost in the perceived "culture of corruption"?

That is something I would actually be afraid of.

As a Gorean Man, your beliefs certainly dont mesh with mine, also your libertaarian values also dont mesh but from what I have seen and read about you , you ARE an honorable man and no Im not brown nosing.
I dont see much honor in politics...

Thanks Lucy....

I'm not sure that honor is the biggest ingredient absent in our present political environment; I'd be happy to see a drive by individuals to just place greater value on their individual integrity.

But I do hear where you're coming from.

What the hell do you see as.......................”electable”?

Someone with proven abilities and experience. Someone who keeps his promises, who does not promise what he cannot deliver and who is honest about the promises he cannot keep. Someone who cannot be bought nor extorted. Someone who is not there to preach, but to solve problems. Someone who is there for all the people, who is there for the least of them.

And can those you share your life with..... family, friends, etc.....withstand that type of being 'outed'? Aka, the ripple effect. This is something GD and I have discussed on several occasions.

I also echo what Lucy wrote.

Excellent LaT.... And this is probably my biggest consideration.

I would never want my granddaughter chastized in school because of geepaw. That thought by itself actually tears at my heart.

I never knew love until my wife gave me sons and I'd never known the real meaning of dutiful selflessness until those sons shared with me children of their own.

It is impossible for me to look into the faces of my posterity and not want to oblige the hopes and dreams in their eyes. Now it is up to me to select the best course of action for me to accomplish such.

If I am able to get a handle on any adversity that might befall the innocent in my life here's why I think it's important for someone like me to be involved. In our present political landscape their seem so few that want to promote the common good, but rather seem bent on forcing their right or left wing agendas upon their opposition. It is understandable that it can be so hard to win a point in todays world that when you have a chance to do so, we become transfixed(I hope that is a word) and unyielding in our objectives.

Our Republic is designed to truly consider the lives of us all, it seems important to me that we need to rediscover and always revisit this point before it is lost to history and legend.

Thanks LaT, you are one of our best, and yes I am kissing up. [;)]

If your opponent runs an ad associating you any way with this lifestyle, your campaign will be over. Your message won't mean a thing. I can see the hit peice now, dungeon and all.

Agreed...............

Wait a minute, there's no pictures allowed in the dungeons I've been too.... Who snuck in the camera? Let the whippings commence and no warm up.[8D]

Agreed, and its most likely that an opponent would rather take the easy path and help me lose an election as opposed to have to actually win an election on his or her own merit.

Thank you Rule and I indeed hope that there are many more out there with your mindset. It's the only chance I'd have.

but at this point, unless he came to one of your gatherings, it is only innuendo and imputation..................

so, I think you could come up with an elevator speech for that.

mnottertail -> RE: Electable... (8/24/2010 10:44:32 AM)

Hey, I have been researching political sex scandals............the thing is, don't lie...that's the biggie, the next thing is explain, inform and normalize the behavior....think kennedy getting over the catholic issue, or obama over the black issue.    Iowa is going to have midwestern values, and part of that is, so long as you aint doing nothing in the way of shit that even collarme dont like......... like  minors, bestiality, and because its churchy up our way fuckin somebody elses wife (even a jimmy swaggart come to jesus wont save that bitch up our way)...............you can easily head off the issue by the same way you are gonna tell your young kid about sex when they hit kindergarden.  Broad brush strokes, and needn't go into detail, and show it as a normal thing. It is your willingness to be honest they remember, and they really don't give a fuck about the details anyway.

Hey, I've been involved in political runs for folks.....whats my grease on this?

Even though you deleted your profile from CM it's still alive in the depths of the internet

http://web.archive.org/web/20071216112655/http://www.collarme.com/xBullx

I don't know how nasty district level Iowan politics are (lol) just be aware that anyone who did want to use that against you would easily be able to do so. This part alone would probably kill an election:

"I do believe that God or nature never intended men and women to be equals and if that is what you need, go away, you are the one that lives a fantasy and that is why you can't find the satisfaction in the women that you long to be."

LaTigresse -> RE: Electable... (8/25/2010 4:12:04 AM)

Agreed. As a recent article in the NYT magazine described in detail. Everything is out there. All it takes is someone with the time and know how, or someone with the money to pay someone with the time and know how.......to dig it up. The more you put out here (here being internet land) the bigger and easier the target.

I think if a person was going to run for office and had a questionable internet history, it would be better to address it immediately. Get the information on here, out there, before an opponent could. Really be seen as a person with nothing to hide......for better or worse. Otherwise you would just be waiting for that boot to fall. And in my experience, it always seems to fall when you least expect it.and in the ugliest possible ways.

If I was so inclined to run for public office I would try to imagine the worst possible scenario, multiply it times 100 or so, and figure that was a low estimate. Then decide how to deal with that, and if I even wanted to.
