thornhappy -> Beck rally (8/28/2010 7:54:53 PM)

I found an article about Beck's rally:

"Mr. Beck’s themes were ones he returns to on his radio and television shows, and people in the crowd echoed his ideas, saying that “progressives” were moving the country toward socialism and that the country must get back to a strict interpretation of the Constitution, which would limit the role of the federal government and do away with entitlement programs."

How many of the attendees do you think were there that received Medicare or Social Security?  Does strict interpretation of the Constitution mean you don't believe in the amendments too?  Do they recognize that women and slaves were disenfranchised?

some more stuff...

“The federal government is only to offer us protection from our enemies and help us when we need it,” said Ron Sears, 65, who came on a caravan of three buses from Corbin, Ky. “The states are supposed to control education and everything having to do with their citizens, except when they need federal help.”"
So they really want government help.  Does that include entitlements? Low cost loans to rebuild after disasters?  Where were these guys when No Child Left Behind was passed?  And they expect federal help for the states.
"“My role, as I see it, is to wake America up to the backsliding of principles and values and most of all of God,” he said. “We are a country of God. As I look at the problems in our country, quite honestly, I think the hot breath of destruction is breathing on our necks and to fix it politically is a figure that I don’t see anywhere.”"

Which God?  Usually these guys mean a fundamentalist or Evangelical Christian God, and any other God is a cult or false.

Have you seen this, Thorny?

How MLK, a true Man of Honor, fits into Loon Becks chalkboard

Some, many, most: who cares?

The fact is it was a great crowd, and everyone of them is going to vote Republican; and some of them are going to take 3 or 4 more with them to the polls.
The tsunami is building.
D Morris syas this Nov may be the alltime record for most House seats lost, beating the 74 mark set in 1922.

What was funny last week on talk radio was listening to the dim spins earnestly giving the talking point that of course they're going to lose seats, but it's not because of 0bama0, it's because they were so wildly successful for the past several cycles that they had taken many "Republican seats". That was the dim mot du jour: "republican seats".

Yeah. Like the Mass Senate and the NJ Governorship.

Beck and the Cuda are just gettin out the vote.

Its not Becks chalkboard, its MediaMatters creation, and we all know how reliable MM is.

MLK's niece certainly is a supporter.

Hell, if I'd been visiting my brother out in Potomac today, I would have gone just to point and laugh. Assuming everyone who was there was there to cheer Beckerhead on is fucking moronic.

Neo, you fucked up taking that blue pill and staying in the wingnut matrix.

joether -> RE: Beck rally (8/28/2010 11:21:53 PM)

Anyone have the actual text or a link, to Mr. Beck's FULL speech? Not just parts, or slams of it; the full, unaltered text. Or even a youtube video of it?

tazzygirl -> RE: Beck rally (8/29/2010 12:04:46 AM)

The ONLY thing Glen Beck is interested in is making Glenn Beck money.

Can you post links to those stories? Most of what I've found indicates the rally stuck to its promised tone. I read several quotes from people who attended, but cannot find either Beck or any of the speakers taking an obviously political tone. Re that to read one that used the opportunity to beat liberals about the figurative head and body.

MsNightShade -> RE: Beck rally (8/29/2010 6:02:41 AM)

I dont consider my self a Becker head, Rush baby or any other moniker when it comes to politics. Government should be and was intended to be a simple matter. I dont think government has nor should have the ability to social engineer. No one person or entity has the right to tell me what to do with my body, who I sleep with, how much money I can make, how much money I can spend what I say or the manner in which I say it, etc. Where I differ from this is with Social Security and Medicare. I think not only should be personally responsible for our retirement, I also think we as a society have a responsiblity to look after our elderly. It's just the right thing to do and I dont personally need a law to tell me that.

Much of the problem with this country is that we, as a society, have moved away from personal responsibility for a great deal of aspects in our lives. Its always someone/something elses problem, somebody else will deal with it, somebody else will clean it up..etc. A great example is the way we have put alot of the education of our children into the hands of publically funded schools. To which there is written proof, that public schools were intended to train the public to be just educated enough to work in the factories for those that ran/owned them. They were never intended to be the breeding grounds for the next scientists, doctors, business people etc.
Additionally, why should I as a person that doesnt have children, be responsible for paying school taxes? Why am I required to pay for your children to go to school?

These are just my opinions and thankfully I still have the right to express them.

One story... from the NY Times.

StrangerThan -> RE: Beck rally (8/29/2010 7:44:23 AM)

So in other words, they pretty much stuck to the theme of the rally.

While the crowd at Dunbar was mostly African-American, the audience at Mr. Beck’s rally was overwhelmingly white, though a number of speakers and performers were black.

Neither see the "dream" MLK spoke of... and thats the sad part.

StrangerThan -> RE: Beck rally (8/29/2010 8:02:09 AM)

I'll agree with that.

I firmly believe that very few people in the US see the dream MLK spoke of. What I mostly see is that dream twisted into nightmarish representations of equality, of seeing someone for the content of their character rather than the color of their skin.

Why am I responsible to pay for the wars that your party started?

peacefulplace -> RE: Beck rally (8/29/2010 2:46:31 PM)

Glenn Beck is a charlatan in the same way that Palin is. Or that Limbaugh is. They are in it for fame and big bucks; they are publicity whores.

What I would say to those people worried about our country's slide towards socialism is this: I've been a socialist since my early 20s. 20 years later, we are FURTHER from being a socialist nation than we were under Ronald Reagan.

Get over it.

Alas, wondered why he was so wound up about the tides foundation and the SEIU (overwhelming complained about by business and right-wing blogs) when I bet no one but Californians knew about the tides foundation before Beck, and the SEIU was just covered in the business pages.
