No, not the White House. I'm pretty sure he'd like to keep that as long as possible, and not the house in Chicago either, though I'm sure he wishes he'd never added the bigger yard that stands as a testament to how he responds to encounters with the corruption within our system. My question is; does he want to lose Democrat control in the House of Representatives? Given the impact of Presidential approval numbers in a mid-term election, such a desire would explain, for example, his completely bone-headed and out of touch comments on the NY mosque. Even his most ardent supporters might prefer to call his unforced errors strategeric, rather than just plain dumb, and indicative of how deep in over his head he is. The 2012 re-election campaign will kick off on November 3. A Republican controlled House hands him someone to blame and make excuses with. It offers a chance to split and re-direct the non-partisan anger and discontent of the citizenry, and increase the heat of partisanship to even higher levels. (Yes, I know he rose to power talking about a different, post-partisan, way of doing things, but I guess he took that position from his own idealistic ignorance - now that he has had a taste of the real world, he slings mud from the broad brush all the time.) With a Repub congress, and two big chunks of his domestic agenda now in the hands of the committees and commissions that will write all the nasty bits into law, he will be set. He can rely on them to support his military (mis)adventures, and let them do the heavy lifting on immigration reform while he claims the credit (think Clinton and welfare reform). Has he already decided on a theme of "divide and conquer in '12," and knows he can't do it from a position of single-party rule?
