ORIGINAL: TheHeretic Why do you tell such stupid lies, Ken? The standard I asked for, but rarely saw exercised, was a simple bit of respect towards the office of the Presidency, instead of the barrage of hate speech we saw at every turn for eight years. It isn't hard. It doesn't interfere in any way with offering criticism, and it doesn't preclude using language in such a way as to distinguish between the principle of democracy, and the political party which has co-opted the term. Ever go to the horse or dog track, Strange? Do the announcers just wait silently until the end of the race to talk about how it is going? The campaign is rolling, the commenting light is lit. I know the talk is circulating. Personally, I want at least the House or the Senate to go Republican. It's not because I am one, but more so because one party owning two of the three branches of government is rarely a good thing in my mind. Honestly, it's more like 3 of the 4 branches of government given that legislation must pass both House and Senate to become law. It becomes too easy to ram agendas down the throats of everyone else and short circuits any need for compromise when that much power resides in so few hands - especially when it those hands are grouped under one ideology . Having said that, I'm at the point where I wonder if compromise is a word destined for the trash bin of political history. I think for a good many independents, it will boil down not to who governs best, but who threatens least. Democrats could help their cause by recognizing and castrating the hypocrisy in their own folds. Since that is not going to happen, I'm with you on thinking there will be a significant turn over in Washington come November. I've just never been one to spend a lot of time worrying about what might happen until the happening is done and we see what type of playing field we have. I do enjoy reading the speculation though. Grin.
