Are you the judge?

This "An eye for an eye" punishment was abolished, I suppose, by the Lord of Mercy, the pagan god of his times of the Jews (and of everybody else), over three thousand years ago. Thus the blasphemy of the Abrahamic Jewish sharia law, which is without mercy, clearly demonstrating that the Abrahamic Jews - i.e per my definition of Abrahamic Jews - blaspheme against their own pagan god.

Jesus went even further: it is said that he forgave murderers who were crucified at the same time as he was.

Civilized people do not hurt and harass their fellow man, no matter how great the wrongs he has committed. (Thus my neighbor who harasses and pains me with his very loud music, per this my definition is not a civilized person.)

Especially prison inmates ought to be protected from their fellow prison inmates. Prison officers are representing their country and any barbarous actions by them reflect badly upon their country. I refer to the bad name that an Islamic country like for example Turkey has for the atrocious conditions in their prisons, as well as to the Gulags in the former Soviet Union, and as well to the prisons of many other countries.

The barbarity of a country is measured by the way they treat their criminals and prisoners.

I guess Im not as good as Jesus.  The guy pleaded GUILTY to PRODUCING child pornography including to explicit videos and photos.  In my book, that is worse than murder.

I just cant find a lot of sympathy for him.

Interesting that you manage to insert your anti semitic bullshit into discussions about child pornography.

Obsessed much?

Interesting?  No.

Pathetic?  Yes, but expecting anything less from Rule would be silly.

I am not an anti-Semite. I have the best interests of all people at heart.

My post was about ethics.

Perhaps you ought to change your nick into bullshitblonde?

I comprehend your position and cannot fault you for it. Nevertheless I encourage you to emulate the grace of Jesus and even to surpass him in this.

The man has been judged and sentenced already. It is wrong to judge and sentence him twice or millions of times for the same crime (and not allowed by USA law, if I recall correctly). When he has served his sentence his debt to society has been paid and bygones are bygones (though he will be watched always).

You are right. Why bother with the ramblings of a fool?

I can't find much either.

Reading that story makes you feel ill from beginning to end.

Rule -> RE: Sympathy for the devil? (8/30/2010 9:55:01 AM)

If you perceive me like that, I must be right. [8D] I appreciate and thank you for the compliment.

You don't have to have sympathy for him. But you should expect the law to be adhered to and we have laws regarding the treatment and protection of inmates.

Otherwise, what is the point of having any laws at any? Saying that viligante justice is ok and that the laws can be ignored is a recipe for diaster. Just because the guy who was beaten and raped today was guilty doesn't mean the next guy will be.

I don't have much sympathy for him either. But I don't want our nation's prisons to be a place where the men and woman that go in come out worse than they were because such violence is tolerated. He sentenced to time in jail - not rape.

Indeed it is very bad and there are many more people who have done great wrongs in prison. But are you the judge? Do you not know any better than "An eye for an eye"?

Hillwilliam -> RE: Sympathy for the devil? (8/30/2010 10:13:33 AM)

One way to look at it is this.  He was found guilty in a court of law and then he was sentenced by a jury of his peers.  Fellow felons.

I said I couldn't find much sympathy. That means some does exist. I also said it makes you feel ill just to read the story. There is nothing good in it, from what he did to what happened to him. Our prison system has a lot of faults. I don't anyone would dispute that with you.

Rather than being judge or jury, I am by having read the story, an observer and can tell you without reservation that the scope of it is sickening.

I hear you. Thank you for elaborating on your position.

Unfortunately that's exactly what happens. Just a fyi but there is a large difference between jail and prison.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Sympathy for the devil? (8/30/2010 10:22:12 AM)

By the way, is it just me or did the writer of the story seem to be trying to drum up sympathy for him?  Early on he is referred to as "accused" and only if you read to the end you find out that he had already pled guilty (when you plead guilty, you're not accused any more, you're freakin CONVICTED).

That is indeed one way of looking at it. Looking at it that way implies that one approves of and condones violence and the promulgation of human suffering.

Now I do think that violence and death can serve a purpose. I know about a truck driver who every morning early came to pick up a mate and used his claxon to announce his presence, waking up everybody in the vicinity. Someone eventually got so mad about that that he ran out, pulled open the door of that truck and gave the driver a punch in the face, and subsequently nicely asked him not to use his claxon any more that early in the morning. He appreciated that request and henceforth abstained from waking up the neighborhood.

Similarly, I think that my neighbor with his loud music would be reborn as a civilized person if someone punched him hard in the face and subsequently asked him nicely to not harass his neighbors any more with his uncivilized behavior. Unfortunately I neither have the muscles nor the personality to civilize this anti-social ogre.

However, putting a chicken in the chicken coop and allowing him and even encouraging him to be picked to death by the other chickens in the coop is callous and inhumane behavior in my opinion. And not a proper way for those other chickens to regain some honor.

Who cares? No people will have sympathy for him. Nor is it about him. It is about the degree of barbarity and civilization of the population of which he is a part.

StrangerThan -> RE: Sympathy for the devil? (8/30/2010 10:48:45 AM)

I didn't catch that slip. I do think it contained a sympathetic tone.

Then again, I'm thinking of how I would have written the story if it had been assigned to me. I spent several years as a freelance writer and reporter. I don't think I would have written it with sympathy in mind, but I don't think you could write the facts in a way that would not engender some - if that makes sense.

Honestly, I don't want to go back and re-read it to see.
