Status: offline 		I think in reality it makes no difference if this book is burned or not when it comes to the safety of our soldiers. If they don’t burn the book do you think when an American soldier is in their gun sites they won’t pull the trigger?

No… the reason not to burn the book is because doing so is un-American …Insulting to millions of our own citizens.

This proposed action does not represent Christians in America any more than Al Qaeda represents Islam in Saudi Arabia.

We, meaning the US, have lost the battle of propaganda mostly because of our free press and freedom of speech… and the assholes who burn books… I think it is worth it but stupid as hell.

Would he argue that because some extremist in Iraq beheaded a journalist that this justifies someone in the USA kidnapping a Muslim and beheading them? Seriously...

I suppose as a parent, the whole entire argument that "so-and-so did it, so it makes it okay for me" is laughable. It is also extraordinarily juvenile.

Do you really think that picture justifies them? I dont. The point Im making is that they have the right to demonstrate just as left wing reactionary religious zealots have the right to demonstrate, just as Pakistani Islamic zealots have the right to demonstrate (or at least they should have).

And if I didnt play the devils advocate on a lot of these issues who would.

Status: offline 		That's horrible! (having just read the article via the link)   And, not only that, but, it is very illegal. Let's start with oppressing another religious group; then, there is the whole fire without a permit thing; then, there is inciting a riot.

I don't care if the riot is in another country: their announcement to do something that is a detrimental disrespect of other person's religious beliefs has incited a riot and they should all be arrested  and charged with the crime. Especially as what they are doing is not going to be looked on by those people as one little church group making the decision, but, as  Americans attacking the Quarun.

It's a stupid, childish, ill thought out plan! At the very least, they should be locked up until the day is past!

What have I posted that justifies anyone burning  anything julia? The only point I have made is that we should defend everyones right to demonstrate freely and openly and that the Muslims demonstrating in Pakistan who were burning the American flag really dont have grounds to dictate to us about burning anything.

I know this is hard to understand, but there is no "them" and "us" - they are us... don't you get it? You are justifying alienating and disrespecting your fellow citizens. Perhaps you know no one that is Muslim. Perhaps in your isolated world they don't exist, but they do in my reality. There are peaceful neighborly Muslims in every major city in this nation.

Now you can continue to post about extremists that do not represent most moderate Muslims as to support the religious extremists that are going to burn Korans... or you can grow the fuck up and condemn all religious extremism....your posting shows a person that believes destroying holy books of people who aren't even your enemy is justified because someone somewhere burned a bible...

Conservative as I am, this burning is juvenile. I agree with Julia 100%. There are certainly parts of the Bible rife with violence so it's a bit hard to "throw stones". We now have the absurd image of Muslim and Christian spoiled brats, sitting in a sandbox throwing sand at each other, calling their Mommy and breaking each others' toys. What possible good can come from EITHER...a Muslim center within blocks of Ground zero....or some Christian pastor behaving like an idiot and burning the Islamic equivalent of his own Bible.

Yes, they both have the RIGHT to do what they are doing....but it isn't about "rights" in either case. It's about intent, message and sensitivity. What next? Bible burning in Mecca? Christian Crusaders attacking restaurants where middle-eastern food is served?

Being of the Islamic faith does not equal incarnate evil, any more than such a thing is inherent in being Jewish, Christian or Atheist. The whole bunch of them need to be taken to the woodshed and given a good whuppin'. If there IS a God up there, He must have His face buried in His hands wondering what he was thinking.....

Again, how is anything Ive posted justifying burning a Koran? Answer that, or quit making the childish accusation, as Ive not attempted to justify any such thing.

Burn all the bibles you want, I dont care and I highly doubt you will receive death threats from all corners of the globe when you do so.

I also doubt that the president and the secretary of state and the director of homeland security and the justice department and various generals stationed overseas will take any notice or be alarmed whatsoever.

I said repeatedly that they have the right, but that doesn't make it right.

Why is it so hard for you to acknowledge that this is wrong, and it shows that there are a few whackos in every country willing to do extreme shit to make a point? The more you post about what "they" do, the more it sounds as though you are justifying burning holy books. It doesn't
