TheHeretic -> "They talk about me like a dog" (9/7/2010 8:03:45 PM)

So what's up with this off-script comment from the President? Self-pity? Flashing the race card? Channeling Jimi Hendrix?

Maybe he should keep in mind that his predecessor was called a monkey, and get back to doing the job he wanted so damn badly two years ago.

President Obama employed dramatic language over the weekend to mobilize a listless Democratic base and cast Republicans as special interest shills standing in the way of economic recovery. ...
Rebuilding the middle class, he said, has "meant taking on some powerful interests -- some powerful interests who had been dominating the agenda in Washington for a very long time."
"And they're not always happy with me," Mr. Obama added. "They talk about me like a dog. That's not in my prepared remarks, it's just -- but it's true."

Slow news day?

Could it be Rich, that we have a President that is not afraid to face his fears and doubts in public?

Maybe we have a President that is showing his vulnerablilites as a mortal man, a human being?

Kudos to Mr. President for sharing, showing and admitting, that we all have times of doubt, and that he is only human!

Slow news day?

Ahead of the curve.

I'm not buying it, Mari. That wasn't a view from within, but a casting of blame from without.

Or a deliberate and cold-blooded political statement.

It sounded mostly like a whine to me, without all the overtones thought out.

tazzygirl -> RE: "They talk about me like a dog" (9/7/2010 8:50:31 PM)

"I'm going to keep fighting, every single day, every single hour, every single minute, to turn this economy around; to put people back to work; to renew the American Dream for your families and for future generations," the president said.

Using a metaphor he has employed a number of times before, Mr. Obama said Republicans "drove our economy into a ditch... And then they got the nerve to ask for the keys back!"

He added, "They'd have those special interests riding shotgun, then they'd hit the gas and we'd be right back in the ditch."

You liked the dog comment... i liked the above one.

Different strokes for different folks.

Marini -> RE: "They talk about me like a dog" (9/7/2010 8:54:20 PM)

President Obama very well may have been "whining", and still.....so what the fuck?
Give President Obama some really good cheese to go with his whine.

I like real people, he is being real, and if he keeps talking like this, I am going to just adore him.

President Obama is just "keeping it real".
I also like to "keep it real".

Get with the program, Rich.

Yeah, how likely is that, Mari?

Maybe this is a cultural problem, Rich.
I have used the expression: "talking about me like a dog", since I was around 13.
I can say it without thinking twice.

Do you say it often? Are you around people that say it often?

If not, than I can understand why its a big deal to you, and for me, it's as common as saying, "time to turn out the lights".

........................not a big deal, in the least!.........................

Its time for me to turn out the lights, and I bet some people at work talk about me like a dog.

He is a dog.
( I hereby apologize to all the wonderful dogs in the world I just insulted.)

TheHeretic -> RE: "They talk about me like a dog" (9/7/2010 9:25:38 PM)

I can't say I'm familiar with that one as a common figure of speech, Mari, and I come from some colorful talkers. I've heard of being worked like a dog, and all sorts of variations on using "dogs" as metaphors for feet. I've heard 'talked about like a dog,' once, outside Hendrix, and that was in a context of racism allegations.

Maybe you're right. At best, another round of fodder because he said something foolish.

I grew up with that expression... its nothing new.

You must have lived a sheltered life indeed.

And yes, the cons do talk about him like he's a dog.

Imagine Obamas tantrums if people talked about him the way they talked about Bush... [:D]

Hes got some kind of a complex going on.

From the November 2008 People online magazine -

quote:

President-Elect Obama May Get a Mutt 'Like Me'

The main topic of the day was the economy, but President-elect Barack Obama did say Friday, at his first press conference since his election, that he is dealing with a topic close to home.

How often do I say hes Bidens little bitch or hes a little freakish monkey boy, or a war criminal, or otherwise less than human because he never served in the military in a way that I approve of or whatever.

Recall the standard Leftist mantra? "Bushy is a traitor, hes a deserter, hes a war criminal, and he should be treated as such..."

In plain language, taken out and shot.

No Louve, we dont hold a candle to you guys.

Louve00 -> RE: "They talk about me like a dog" (9/8/2010 4:26:14 AM)

Sanity, c'mon...don't back pedal now.  You know damn well every thread you start is bitching about the President, his administration or anything at all to do with the left  You live, eat and breathe left or right.  Whether or not you're bitching about the same thing is irrelevant.

Sanity -> RE: "They talk about me like a dog" (9/8/2010 4:35:15 AM)

Let me put it this way, in a way you might be able to understand it. You were all cuckys towards Bush. You talked assassination, you obsessed on hating him, there was no place so low you wouldnt go.

We poke a little fun at Obama and you just about go insane over it though...

Louve00 -> RE: "They talk about me like a dog" (9/8/2010 4:57:14 AM)

I think you're getting over dramatical now.   I don't at all understand it the way you put it because I don't remember a constant threat of assassination being put on Bush, and I don't hear that (incessantly, anyway) for Obama.  That Obama said people talk about him like dogs is spot on, if you ask me.  And for the record, before you think I'm saying no one talked about Bush, then you can stop dead in your tracks, because yes...people talk ill about every president.  That this one wanted to comment and nip back a bit doesn't bother me at all.  It apparently bothers you, though.
