Fall is my favorite time of year...fresh apples, pumpkins, the chill of mornings and all that color on the trees!   I have more energy then usual, as I squirrel away canned goods, prepare the shed for bushels of apples and the lawmower is given it's yearly cleanup before going to bed for the Winter.

Now...if we could only get rid of the football on every freakin radio station, every channel on tv, and the backbone of every discussion at the hardware store...Fall would be perfect.

Football doesn't even come into my reality and hasn't since I was a kid. I haven't ever been involved with a sports fan, my son isn't a sports fan, I know no sports fans, and I do not listen to the radio very often

I only care about the real "football".
I have managed to nearly completely avoid any American football.

And I do not care about either of them

If people quit playing both sports tomorrow, my world wouldn't change

I would advise you not marry a football fan, or live in a town that all the men talk about is football...even off season. :)   Football or guns, I live in redneck country.  I love the men that are grown here, big, burly guys that aren't afraid to spit, I just wish we could lessen the football addiction!

My father was a football fan. This was the days before the VCR. He would scream at me for walking across the frontroom or making too much noise during a game. It was his only flaw in being a father. He even had a radio with an ear piece so he could listen if he had to absolutely leave the house.

I am not saying sports fandom is a hard limit for me, because it is not something that I consciously check for when screening partners. But, it does repel me on some level. If I am talking to a guy and he is always talking about going to the game with his friends instead of spending time with me... I mean a lot, I don't think we would be compatible. I could envision a dominant making me sit through games with him for his amusement though.

On a side note, my father was a 49er fan. I loved spending time with my dad. I figured out that if I took an interest in football and asked him questions about the game, he didn't yell at me when I talked to him. I figured this out late, when I was 13. It was the year the 49ers won their first super bowl, it was also the last football season my dad lived to see. I was always grateful he got to see his team win. He was so thrilled over it. I was happy that I got to spend that one season with him.... sitting with him, while he explained the rules of football to me. It is a pretty special memory for me.

If it wasn't for football, there'd be no excuse for big butch straight guys to shower together, and where would we be then?

Fall is intimately connected to football, as it should be.

If only the Bears would pay more attention to what is going on in Green Bay. Maybe they might start playing a facsimile of the game.

Detroit got hosed.

I almost agree. The rule is the rule though. It doesn't make any sense though. Ball breaks the plane, touchdown.

The sad thing is, it never should have come down to that.

Oh well..... hockey is right round the corner!

Most of the analysts think they will win the Superbowl this year. Don't be such a buzzkill.

I guess if the game made more sense to me....

A team of men, facing each other, knowing that the path will be blocked, is sort of like running into a brick wall...to get to the inside of the building.    Seems like alot of running into walls to get from side A to side B.

It's not as if they can't see the wall, it's staring back at them.   Because the wall has ideas of it's own.  At least with baseball there seems to be a bit more logical thinking.   Hit the ball, run the bases, don't hit the ball, no running.  There isn't a line of men padded with 50 lbs of hard plastic waiting to flatten your ass between you and first base.

I sit through the season, every year, and listen to the cheers, bring drinks and make snacks.  I try to not look like a deer in headlights when plays are explained to me, or when a team member is being shredded for the last move he made...and I count the minutes until I am released from this conversation and can find refuge in the kitchen.
