Here is the thing: When I was growing up I spent about ~50% of my time playing football on concrete, in the middle of the street, in the nearby stadium, in the middle of the dirt (grass never lasted long), with backpacks for goalposts, when it was and wasn't raining and even while neighbours yelled at us that they were trying to grow flowers.

A reasonable amount of bullying, scuffles, challenges, spitting and insulting eachother's mothers occured. Cuts, bruises, and blood mixed with dirt.

Innumerable amounts of soccer balls were literally torn apart from being worn down. New ones were purchased and only to disintegrate in a matter of days.
Clothes with grass stains and dirt all over them were bleached repetitively.

If I had to never be reminded of that again it would be like losing part of my heritage.
I would shed one of those single tears that quickly dries up and I can easily deny.

If that poetic description explain it for you, then you have no heart!
Actually, this reminds me I've become a bit too tame in recent years.

Here is my secret for denying the existence of football during the fall season. Do not resist it existing. It isn't like I go around getting irritated at every football reference. If you don't feed it emotionally, it won't even register that it is there. Believe it or not, I try not to be resistent to traffic, long lines, and paperwork. These things used to have the power to aggravate me to the point of needing anger management classes, not anymore.

Try ignoring the existence of football. Act as though it does not exist. It might work for you the way it works for me... Because I can tell you right now, you posting a thread about how annoying you find it has attracted those very people who love it to post a response... see what I mean?

It's not as if they can't see the wall, it's staring back at them. Because the wall has ideas of it's own. At least with baseball there seems to be a bit more logical thinking. Hit the ball, run the bases, don't hit the ball, no running. There isn't a line of men padded with 50 lbs of hard plastic waiting to flatten your ass between you and first base.

Only if you are running with the ball. I think the reception rule is a good rule but it looked to me like he had enough control through the end of the play but obviously the booth did not agree. It also looked like he let the ball go a little early and could have retained physical possession a little longer rendering the call moot.

Having said that I think the Redskins cheerleaders are pretty hot and I love it when an anti-football thread spawns a discussion about football.
