Since you mentioned loss of the 60-vote supermajority, do you remember why there was even an election in MA for Scott Brown to win?

I know this will come as a shock to you, Heretic, but, in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, we do elect those to represent us, the citizens. The Democrats fielded someone that could have won, but the DNC in the state did not take the Republican challenger (then, Mr. Scott Brown) as a serious threat until the last 4 weeks. By then, the damage was deep. Mr. Brown did not get into office by his own credentials or promises. The moderates in the states, were angered by the Democrats at a national level, for a few things the Democrats didn't do:

A) Make the Health Care Bill better, WITH, a goverment option.
B) Get our troops out of both Iraq and Afghanistan
C) Trying to comprise with Republican on anything (since Republicans dont 'give & take', but just 'take')

Now, Sen. Scott Brown has to walk an extremely fine line, Heretic. If he goes to far 'conservative', he will not have a prayer of winning re-election. If he goes to far 'liberal', he will risk losing money from the RNC at the state & federal level. So, he has to be a good politican to both major sides, who will stab him in the back (metaphorically speaking), if he goes even a milimeter towards the opposite side.

And you can bet your ***, the Democrats will field a well polish canidate for the next election, Senator Brown runs for office. They will pour money in to the election, and make sure to remind the citizens of each and every action, deemed 'ultra-conservative' and 'against the values of real Americans'.

I believe he was a drunken seventeen year old, so that says a lot really, seventeen he is not considered to be legally an adult, and drunken says he got alcohol to be drunk, either it was given to him or he bought it, so illegal on both counts. If he stole it, illegal again.

But as to firing off insults and threats to all and sundry, the internet now makes that possible, perhaps people do not think of the consequences of what they may write to the world community, one wrong sentence and think of the consequences with the more volatile people in the world. Can what is read influence people who read it, well that all depends upon the words written and the reader, for it takes all sorts in this world of ours.

But I believe what prompted this seventeen year old to emotionally write what he did to the president of the United states of America had something to do with the tv programme he was watching, and that was reported to be about 9/11 the world trade centre atrocity. Now tell me would he have been the only one to have got upset watching such a programme, would he have been the only person drinking copious amounts of alcohol whatever his tolerance is whilst watching something of that nature. He obviously felt outraged at something on that programme and in his less than sober state he responded in the only way he knew, get on the internet and fire a few words off to where he felt was the fitting place, is that wrong given the nature of the events, perhaps it might have been the wrong president, but this kid saw the leader of the USA, whoever was in place, perhaps it was something Obama had done, who knows, even the kid doesn't know and US inland security won't comment as their policy,

But really, to ban a  foreign minor from the USA for life for his drunken, emotional actions, I do hope this class of action extends to Americans when they similarly fuck up through inability to take their drink or not be in control of their emotions

Ah, I just remembered the American right of freedom of speech, I take it that does not apply to foreigners, allies or even countries with special relationships.

Or is it Obama saw what was written and thought, 'ah, British !'

Quick question for you Brits, are you just as outraged by England banning an American who never uttered any type of threat towards your PM or Queen?

Or is it OK for England to ban Michael Savage simply because he's too conservative, and voices his opinion of radio?

indeed he lets the past shade his current outlook.
he went to an anti american church for 20 years. he has chosen to hang with anti american marxis his entire adult life.....so its not just the british he is alinating!
My dislike of him has nothing to do with his race, its all about his fucked up beliefs.

Or maybe your interpretation of his beliefs is what is fucked up.

tazzygirl -> RE: A word of warning, don't insult the president (9/14/2010 9:55:44 AM)

People in the US who pull such a stunt end up with a visit from the Secret Service and FBI, and typically a jail term. Since he is overseas, and out of our jurisdiction, we could have pushed for extradition, or ban him from coming here, falling into another drunken state, and actually going through with the threats he doesnt even remember sending to the President.

We arent going to worry about what ifs, and his intoxication level. He sent that email. He was told what was in that email. He doesnt remember? He is full of shit.

What we are also not going to worry about is a UK teen getting drunk on US soil and potentially coming after the President.

Why are you not expecting this young man, who felt he was grown enough to drink and fire of a threatening letter to a world leader, to accept the fate of his actions?

Dad?  What's a marxis?  Is it anything like a praxis?

Son, I don't have time to answer you cogently, so I must state my opinions in obviously inchoate thought....you see, son, I am late for my quarterly alinating appointment

What IS his opinion of radio? Is it controversial? Does he think Marconi was a Marxist? Or even Marxis?

I think it was an ok invention.  I still have a pocket one somewhere.

I might have a go at this. I want a letter banning me from the US - I could frame it, and put it over my mantelpiece. What a cool talking point that would be!

tazzygirl -> RE: A word of warning, don't insult the president (9/14/2010 1:21:24 PM)

Why dont you write that letter and post it to a thread here? Then we can critique it and tell you how to make it more threatening, ensuring you get your wish.

Im sure later you can do as this kid did and claim to be drunk too. [:D]

hertz -> RE: A word of warning, don't insult the president (9/14/2010 1:26:29 PM)

Trouble is, I quite like Obama, and it goes against the grain to be mean to him. I'm happy enough to wait until Palin is in the Whitehouse though - I really feckin hate her stoopid face. Shouldn't be too long, now... [;)]

Your asinine claim that there was compromise with the GOP on the health care bill doesnt deserve rebuttal. Read my lips: there was none.

No shit?

You mean Obama and the Democrats just decided they really didn't like the public option after all the time they spent promoting it?

If you want to have a discussion in good faith then I'm willing.

If you want want to deny the obvious then I'm more than happy to watch you make a fool of yourself.

He couldnt get the public option past the Democrats or it would have been in there.

what a maroon

and

"Liberals dropped the public insurance plan that was a central plank of the Democrats' health bill in favor of a more limited alternative, following intense pressure from a small group of Democrats who had insisted for months that it was a deal-breaker. While disputes over abortion coverage and other issues remain, Democrats appeared a whisker away from having enough votes to overcome Republican opposition and pass a sweeping health overhaul in the Senate.

The six Republican ideas already in the health-care ...

At this point, I don't think it's well understood how many of the GOP's central health-care policy ideas have already been included as compromises in the health-care bill. But one good way is to look at the GOP's "Solutions for America" homepage, which lays out its health-care plan in some detail. It has four planks. All of them -- yes, you read that right -- are in the Senate health-care bill.

And how many facets of the health care bill are anathema to conservatives? You do understand they didnt get to vote on their four planks separately, right? (if you havent misinterpreted them or how they are reflected in the health care bill, which is doubtful)
