"A woman is being executed in the United States for murder, but nobody protests against it," Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told the state-run IRNA, according to an Agence France-Press report today.

Teresa Lewis, 41, will die by injection Thursday unless the Supreme Court intervenes. The Iranian parliamentary human rights committee compared her case to that of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, a 43-year-old Iranian woman sentenced to death by stoning for adultery. Ashtiani's death sentence was suspended after international outcry over the woman's plight embarrassed Iran.

I see a big difference in the 2 cases.  Obviously, some in Iran do not.  Having your husband and step son murdered is a lil bit worse than getting some strange ding dong, at least to me.

What cha think?

Well, as long as people are regularly being killed across the world, it's all good, isn't it?  Nothing like a hearty bit of killing to warm the heart and make one feel all godly and morally upright and stuff.  Fun!

Oh yeah, 'they're also killing people' a great excuse. American govt complaining against death penalty has long been a double take.

I think we'd do well by abolishing the Death Penalty in this country.

It's one of those peculiar things about morality: the more people involved, the more childish it becomes.  When one man is dealing with another, both will agree that two wrongs don't make a right.  But when it comes to relations between two nations - oh no.  Things are much more 'sophisticated'.

Contrary to the people who share my faith, I am for the death penalty. However, Adultery should not be punishable by death.

Granted, Adultery in the old testament was punishable by death, as was fornication, homosexuality and a few other crimes.

I am against the death penalty completely. It is state sponsored murder, period. And unfortunately we are one of those barbarous people who commit state sponsored murder which leads to such comparisons with a country like Iran

So, if you are opposed to the death penalty, you see no difference in the 2 cases since they are both just wrong in your eyes?

I am pro death penalty to my core, when it comes to having evidence beyond any shadow of a doubt that the person is guilty of taking anothers life.  The thought of it even being on the table for a woman who just fucked around blows my mind though.

fast reply to all, not just to julia, since I reckon it will show replied to her.

I suggest that anyone against the death penalty look at the Petit Case

But how can you be against it, Julia?  Surely, the existence of the death penalty in the USA is what has kept crime - especially violent crime - so low in that wonderfully peaceful nation?   Indeed, it must be due to the existence of the death penalty that Americans have developed such a strong antipathy towards all things violent - including the ownership of guns.

It was surely this sort of beatific outcome that God had in mind when He included, in His Ten Commandments, "Thou shalt not kill, unless Thou art the State".  Verily, is it not known by all that Jesus packed a magnum?

Capitol punishment is,as Julia stated, nothing more than state sponsored murder.Granted it comes ,at least in this country ,with all the bells and whistles of due process and one would hope the certainty of guilt...but bottom line it is still nothing more than the state committing murder.
I could do without my state/country executing anyone in my name.Far better to lock scum up in deep dark holes and let them rot.Society is safe from their evil...while avoiding the possibility of making a horrible un-rectifiable mistake.
That being said....in my opinion there is a huge difference between the charge of adultery and the charge of murder.

Consider the source, and who gives a fuck? This asshole makes me wish the CIA still had assassination in their job description.

I know, I know, but it seems like such a simple answer, doesn't it? I saw a quote in the AP feed this afternoon where he was blaming capitalism for poverty.

I am ok with the death penalty.  Some people just simply deserve to die for the things they've done.

Murders, child molesters, and rapist pretty much deserve whatever happens to them.  I don't however seeing adultery fitting onto that list.

I could not agree more!

I am for capitol punishment in some cases. I can guarantee that if someone committed a heinous crime against a loved one of mine...I would indeed wish to see them dead.
