Morning,

I'm asking this here, because I would like to hear from those who use the terminology when speaking of themselves, as well as those who use it as a point of address.

When you come to the realization that you have a dominant nature and desire to have someone kneeling at your feet...what word comes to your mind?   Are you a master, or a sir?   Why?

Is there a difference?  How do you view it?

On the flip side, to those doing the kneeling, what is your perception?  I realize you address the dominant force in your life in the manner he prefers, I wondered if in your heart/mind there was a difference in what each word means.

First morning of fall, too cold to work outside right now, so some idle thoughts I decided to ask others about.

Lisa

I'm like waaaaaaaay worse; I'm me. :P

Normally, I do not feel the need to be "respected".
As far as roleplay goes, "sir" will do.

I once got a cmail that had the word "sir" in it 7 times in 3 sentences!
It did not make me want to reply!

sexyred1 -> RE: Whats in a name (9/22/2010 10:06:21 AM)

I just call whomever is my partner by their name.

Sometimes I use affectionate terms like honey, babe.

I only use the other words during those specific times that it seems relevant, usually during a scene. But in my relationships titles were not the thing; it was what we were doing that was more important.

Twoshoes -> RE: Whats in a name (9/22/2010 10:17:11 AM)

That reminds me, I have an idiosyncratic aversion towards the word "baby".
Perhaps, I have been scarred by the word "cute" in previous years.

My internal reaction is: "I'm nobody's baby, sweetheart. I'm the reason you lock your doors at night."

Overcompensating pretty hard there, I'll have to admit. [:)]

I see, but how about babe? That is more manly. :)

~Fast Reply~

He likes being called "Boo" and "Master Boo". We never said we took ourselves seriously... [;)]

For me, I like changing things around to fit the mood. When it's ordinary stuff ("What do you mean your brother is crashing at our place tonight!??!") it's his given name. "Sir" is both 'in the mindset' and casual. I find I use 'Master' sometimes when I'm annoyed, frustrated or angry and trying to keep my temper in check and reminding myself of how I want to behave towards him.

Sometimes I call him my Honey Bunches of Oats. Or Husband-Sorous-Rex. [:D]

*snickers* I like it...

Sir. I don't really like the master/slave dynamic; think more in terms of mentor/disciple. Sir seems to fit that better.

HisFirstAngel -> RE: Whats in a name (9/22/2010 11:49:47 AM)

I always address those of authority by Sir or ma'am.  That's how I was raised.  Of course, there's a time and place for everything...I often use His name, hun or sweetie.

Resident Babe just won't work - no way.

Call him by name, that's what he wants. We are life partners, lovers, friends. A lot more than just a d/s role.

Exactly. I call him John. On a rare occasion I call him Sir, but that is less and less frequently, especially since for the last year or so I have worked for him at his business, it just seems more "fake" or insincere the more "real" we get, if that makes any sense. At the way beginning it was kind of hot to call him Sir, but now that he and I are in a fully ensconced 24/7 relationship, it seems too "scene-y" to call him that. He prefers to be called by his name, or we call each other "love" when we are feeling intimate and sweet.

DesFIP -> RE: Whats in a name (9/22/2010 2:41:02 PM)

I'll do it sometimes in scene. But if it's out of scene, it's because I'm feeling insecure and retreating to a strict role is safer. Not a good thing.

LadyPact -> RE: Whats in a name (9/22/2010 2:42:27 PM)

If clip called Me by My first name, I would wonder what was wrong with him.

My current title for him to use is "Mistress".  That is because we are in a M/s dynamic.  While we were still in a D/s dynamic, his term for Me was "m'lady".  The terms graduated as the dynamic went to one of more authority.

From someone who isn't collared to Me, casual terms will do.  If they aren't in a M/s dynamic with Me and call Me "Mistress" without a qualifying name, I'll most likely respond that they need to brush up on their protocol.

daddysliloneds -> RE: Whats in a name (9/22/2010 3:15:48 PM)

you don't have to call me darlin', darlin' but you don't even call me by my name[:D][;)]

littlewonder -> RE: Whats in a name (9/22/2010 3:44:08 PM)

Until I agree to be in a relationship with a dominant man, he's just a human man..nothing more or less.

Once I agree to be in a relationship with him, he's whatever he wishes me to call him. With Master it depends on the situation...sometimes Master, other times Sir and other times his name and there's the rare occasion that "fucker" is mumbled under my breath. [:D]

IronBear -> RE: Whats in a name (9/22/2010 5:25:17 PM)

few people have the right to address me by my first name. (Aye i'l old fashion and proud of it. However most people know me as or here me addressed or referred to as either IB or Bear I take no issues when strangers use that on me. I do have an aversion to being addressed as Mr as it is incorrect thus formally or in business I am addressed as Reverent (never Rev. or Rev baby... This makes me itch to bitch slap that person around the room) or Colonel both of which are correct and how I am introduced to people in business. bad manners is something I tolerate not and tend to cut rude people short and ignore them. master is appropriate in my home for I am the Master (head) of my home and is thus appropriate especially in a Victorian context as well as in the context in which I was born and brought up. Slaves not collared to my home or myself personally are welcome to use the more relaxed IB or Bear.

leadership527 -> RE: Whats in a name (9/22/2010 5:30:07 PM)

I get a minor kick out of "master"... but it's not even enough for me to bother commanding Carol to call me that. I don't see myself as a "master" or a "sir" or a "dominant". I'm "me".

The tellers/receptionists at banks are amazing!

The way they say "sir"...
and constantly ask "if there is anything else" they can do...
even if you're younger than them...

Oh, banking establishments - good for more than sucking your accounts dry with random fees and high interest...
