LET IT BURN?!? Firefighters Watch Home Go Up In Flames Over $75 Fee
Good.   That dummy burned garbage.  Why do I want to smell his garbage just because he is too cheap to pay for disposal?

HIS fire got out of hand and now he is mad.

What a player.   Note how the family - this is not their first fire.

LOL, no plane, the garage imploded.

pahunkboy -> RE: LET IT BURN?!? Firefighters Watch Home Go Up In Flames Over $75 Fee (10/5/2010 8:13:08 AM)

He should be charged with arson.

I bet the bun barrel was too close, did not have a screen on it, and the the ashes contain items you are not supposed to burn.

mnottertail -> RE: LET IT BURN?!? Firefighters Watch Home Go Up In Flames Over $75 Fee (10/5/2010 8:14:27 AM)

pull it.

We no longer burn in the town I live in.

I am glad.

TheRaptorJesus -> RE: LET IT BURN?!? Firefighters Watch Home Go Up In Flames Over $75 Fee (10/5/2010 8:49:02 AM)

That's fucked up.

They could have at least saved the pets then restarted the fire. What assholes.

~FR~

This happened relatively close to where I live and was on the news in my town. I completely blame the residents for the death of their pets. It took two hours, TWO HOURS for the fire in the two barrels to spread to the house. You cannot tell me that people who love their pets could not make it into the house to save them during that 2 hour time. Also, the man did not 'forget' to pay. When asked by a reporter right after it happened he said he just "figured they would put the fire out whether he paid the 75$ or not".

When I heard the first report about it, I was really angry at the People in charge who would not let the firefighters respond though I understood objectively why they didn't let them.(they did not show up until the fire spread to a neighbor's field - that neighbor had paid the fee). BUT when I heard that the fire started in 2  barrels and took 2 hours to get to the house, I had less sympathy. I would go into a *burning* house to save my pets. There's no way I'd leave them in there for two plus hours before a fire spread to my house and burned them alive. That's horrible.

PS: This isn't the first time this has happened. Another house burned in (I think) 2008 in that area because the owner did not pay the fee. So, these residents were on notice that the fee had to be paid in case they one day needed it.

I read the story but I did not watch the video.  I am surprised that the family did not have a fire extinguisher.  Around here I think we have 4.  One in each vehicle, one in the shed, and one in the kitchen.  We also have smoke detectors.  We do not burn garbage where I live but you never know when shit can happen.  Anyone that has ever seen me light the grill understands why I have safety equipment.

pahunkboy -> RE: LET IT BURN?!? Firefighters Watch Home Go Up In Flames Over $75 Fee (10/5/2010 10:09:22 AM)

When I bought my house- the insurance required to know how close the fire hydrant was.

If my town had the $75- I am thinking the insurance would require that to be paid before covering any of it.

Yet- the rule is likely I have to have coverage from in town fire company- and if the fire company was out of the town- I do not know.

but what ins co would insure a place that had no fire company?  even in some high risk areas one can not get coverage other then loyds of London.

DCWoody -> RE: LET IT BURN?!? Firefighters Watch Home Go Up In Flames Over $75 Fee (10/5/2010 11:45:42 AM)

Well this sure is new to me. Non-universal fire service.

Lucylastic -> RE: LET IT BURN?!? Firefighters Watch Home Go Up In Flames Over $75 Fee (10/5/2010 12:10:32 PM)

Dunno, for me, the fact that there fire service isnt available or has drastic cuts to it, or the volunteers couldnt get there on time, is one thing(or several things) But to stand and let it burn because he hadnt paid a fee...Fuck that for a game of soldiers..... dayam thats harsh.
I dont know many people who are in the fire business who could stand by and do nothing. For that Im glad.

Moonhead -> RE: LET IT BURN?!? Firefighters Watch Home Go Up In Flames Over $75 Fee (10/5/2010 12:15:06 PM)

What's the problem, Lucy? A house burning down because somebody didn't pay a subscription is capitalism in action, as God intended. Surely you wouldn't want some evil marxist system where revenues for a non volunteer fire service are raised from taxation?

pahunkboy -> RE: LET IT BURN?!? Firefighters Watch Home Go Up In Flames Over $75 Fee (10/5/2010 12:35:55 PM)

Ok- lets suppose the fire co- put that fire out.

then the others see it- and conclude- I dont have to pay the $75.    Such money goes for the tools to fight fire... and that is costly.  So no one pays next year.  No one.

Then the fires that year suffer- because they did not have the funds to operate.

what then?   why should the others suffer just because this nut abuses the burn barrel.

For those who do not know- in some towns- you have to order garbage pick up.  It is not part of services.

In my case- I take it to the dump for $2 a can- OR I tag my can and order a pick up.  $3.50 a can.   Pick up is not automatic-  nor is it covered in the water bill or taxes.

So this guy-  has 2 burn barrels-  even when I had a burn barrel 2 of us shared one barrel.

so this guy- sloppily burns garbage- that he was a tightwad to pay for a tag.  ($3.50 a bag)   His barrel gets out of control and now it is the fire company responsibility to make it right.

This guy is trash.   A slothful loser.    He also let 3 pets inside when during the 2 hours he could have opened the door for them to escape.

He should be charged with failing to burn- in a safe manner- disorderly conduct-

Put the fire out, then bill the guy for time and materials spent putting it out.

I have a feeling this incident isnt over yet.

It makes me wonder about the pets who died. Would the fire department have sat and watched while a human died in a fire?

I was actually surprised that they didn't.  But different townships have different rules.

It would cost more to collect it than they could get out of the guy. Even if there is a legal basis to try to.

I HOPE there is more to this story Tazzy cos its pretty ugly right now

pahunkboy -> RE: LET IT BURN?!? Firefighters Watch Home Go Up In Flames Over $75 Fee (10/5/2010 1:00:58 PM)

He should take a class on fire safety.

What about the neighbor whos house is now damaged due to the guys need for cheap garbage disposal?

That house had damage- and even if it is fixed- that homeowner faces higher insurance costs now.
