Every day we all make choices in our lives. This guy made a concious decision to not pay $75.00 for fire protection for his home. I don't feel sorry for him in the least.

[:D] I have talked to six firefighters since this morning and not one of them would have just stood around, that said, they are all city large town FF so its not really an issue of denying anyone their skills for lack of money.

Each fire department has an assigned area (district) where I live. When I pay my real estate tax to the county, I pay a set percentage of my assessed value to my fire district to cover fire protection. It sounds like not paying is an option there. The homeowner gambled and lost. If everyone waited until they needed it there would be no money to be prepared. What an expensive lesson for his family and what a perfect lesson for everyone else there that you need to pay for fire protection.

the firefighters in the town of morongo valley let a restaurant burn on an election year when there was a ballot initiative for a pay raise for them...don't believe me, well if you ever find your self passing through the morongo basin on highway 62 you should check it out, the restaurant in question was ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE FORESTATION!the official response was that they couldn't find a fire hydrant... which is right infront of the station(they use the same one to rinse out their hoses and train fire explores)...Gotta love sanbernardino county
