That's a big old guilty look right there. I am always playing with my hair.  The eye brow flaking is year round no matter what. I have always had flaky eyebrows capable of "snowing" gross as it is, I remember being a lil  kid in school bored out of my mind so I decided to play with my eyebrows  and was making it "snow".

Yup, i wear my hair down to sleep, I can't stand braids or pony tails or any kind of hair do while trying to sleep. I will see if  changing pillow cases sooner rather than later, will stop some of the issues, an the redishness in my cheeks.

Running your fingers through your hair then touching your face gets what's in your hair on your face too.

I'm not a dermatologist and I'm not familiar with your skin condition but if you're having the same problem with your hair I'd presume that's where it's started.

Also it's possible that since you're coming up on winter the dryness in the air is making your skin flake more.

Also make sure that you're changing your pillowcases at least once a week, and if the symptoms start to diminish maybe consider replacing your pillows so whatever's in them doesn't go back to your face/hair.

Aynne, Yes, only once a week sometimes twice a week, it doesn't even begin to show signs of being dirty, or greasy before then. And I suppose then people could ask well do you wait for your body to show signs of being dirty, an then the answer would no. However I've done it this way my entire life of bathing myself and washing my own hair with out input from a parent controlling it, and never had problems till I started to about a year go.

You wash your hair once a week? Okay first of all you hair is exposed to the same dirt, grime, chemicals, products, etc. that your skin/face is. You shower and wash daily right? The first thing I would suggest is at least shampooing daily. I take two showers a day, and wash my hair both times and condition, it hasn't caused me any issued.

I don't wash my hair daily. Every other day or sometimes every 3rd day in the winter. On my off days I wet it and put a light conditioner in it... and rinse.

If I washed mine every day it would be completely dry.

This is why those medicated conditioners might seriously help you, best of both words and non-dry hair.  Worst thing that happens is your hair is extra hydrated?

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: Why do I have Seborrheic Dermatitis on my face? (10/22/2010 9:07:07 AM)

DameBruschetta, my hairs not dry or anything with washing it only once a week, however if you wash it to much it will dry out.

However I think a good conditioner might counteract the potential drying out medicated shampoos may do, and if my sehborric dermatitis lessens or even goes away, well then halaluhya, I'll take a lil dry hair over the constant dermatitis.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: Why do I have Seborrheic Dermatitis on my face? (10/22/2010 5:24:11 PM)

Ok, I picked up some prescription medicin from my dr for the dermatitis, and I also picked up some noxema. Lets hope it helps.

How often should I be changing my pillow cases with this condition on my face and hair? Is every 2 days excessive? And won't changing them out the much wear them out super fast, or could I maybe hand wash them, which is much gentler than machine wash?

The medication in the conditioner is what will help with your condition as it kills the yeast.

As mentioned before, it is possible that washing your hair more often with the anti-shampoo may make a big difference: weekly instead of when it is a big problem.

If you go with washing your hair every other day, then use a mild shampoo and if that isn't enough or it dries your hair out, then use the anti-dandruff conditioner.

purepleasure -> RE: Why do I have Seborrheic Dermatitis on my face? (10/22/2010 6:57:00 PM)

mine flares up at the change of seasons or when stressed. I use this on my hair as well as eyebrows and any flaking or scaling is kept under control very well. Expensive, and worth every penny! I try to stock up when it is on sale at my favorite discount stores.

NuevaVida -> RE: Why do I have Seborrheic Dermatitis on my face? (10/22/2010 7:42:33 PM)

I used to have this problem until I discovered Aveda products.  Pricey but worth is.  I don't have any signs of the problem anymore, unless I use something other than Aveda on my hair and face for a period of time.

And I have to wash daily or I risk flaring up.  There are Aveda shampoos that keep my hair in great condition, despite the daily washes.  Once a week is not enough.  I'd be too miserable to handle it.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: Why do I have Seborrheic Dermatitis on my face? (10/22/2010 10:07:42 PM)

pure, 7 bucks is expensive? I guess for a shampoo it is, but we use pantien pro v, and talk about expensive it's probably 10 bucks for two bottles, a shampoo and a conditioner, but that's ok cause I'm not the one buying it hehehe. My mom likes it too, so she buys it an we both use it.

tazzygirl -> RE: Why do I have Seborrheic Dermatitis on my face? (10/22/2010 11:10:02 PM)

Seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp
Medicated shampoos are the first step in treating seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp. Choose an over-the-counter shampoo that contains one of the following ingredients:

■Ketoconazole
■Ciclopirox
■Tar
■Pyrithione zinc
■Selenium sulfide
■Salicylic acid

The last ingredient is the active ingredient in medicated acne pads. [;)]

if you get in the habit of washing your hair every day or every other day your scalp will become accustomed to it and will make more oil to keep your hair from drying out too much. You scalp gets used to how often you wash your hair. I can go a few months with washing my hair once a week and it will eventually quit getting so oily then when I go to washing it more often it starts out dry but then will start producing more oil and keep itself hydrated. I second the keeping your hair clean. If you wash your hair and face every day or every two days I think changing the bed sheets and pillow cases once a week would be sufficient and probably want to wash your face before bed to get all the yuckies off it before you lay down. My ex husband had this issue and it would only go away if he used the head and shoulders every day or every other day and we never could find anything for his face but regular lotion.

Topping, my scalp is VERY sensitive to certain shampoos and hair products, and I'll get these terrible pimply sores on my scalp. I used to use coal tar products, but then I changed to the blue bottle of Head and Shoulders. My ex was a diabetic, and he would get the horrible flaky stuff in his beard, mustache and eye brows. The H&S was the only thing that kept it down. I use it every other day, and I've used it for at least 15 years.

Definitely talk to your doctor about your thyroid. My sister-in-law's sister had the same problem with facial hair and it turned out to be her thyroid. Cut your sugar and white flour intake; go with a fresh veggie and fruit diet and see if that helps too. It will reduce any yeast overgrowth that may be causing many of your symptoms.

Ok, I bought Neutratena T gel, extra strength and I'll start washing my hair with that, though ti smells like a flea shampoo* giggles* and I'll wash my face with ponds cream and the wipes, and then put seacret*tm* minerals from the dead sea lotion on my face, and see how it goes.

I still wanna know why it's transferred to my face though, I guess since it's basically a skin problem, it could transfer very easily specially with long hair, and pillow cases an what not.

Thank you ladies and any gentlemen who may have replied, your comments  and suggestions have been welcome:)

Hmmm... old school home remedies call for epsom salts in the bath to kill the fungus. Can't hurt and helps with sore muscles too.

Sodium Thiosulfate solution was the treatment of choice for decades before there were more expensive patented drugs. But, that stuff stinks like crazy and doubles as a mosquito (and date) repellent. Works fantastic on ringworm too.

Fungus.... something to change the pH of the skin to kill the fungus without changing the health of the ingegument.... Hmmmmm..... I should shut up and go read a book. I'm getting weird mental videos of "pickling torture" now.

subkatslut -> RE: Why do I have Seborrheic Dermatitis on my face? (10/27/2010 11:12:45 PM)

I used to have this problem and had it for over a year before asking. I just thought it was dry skin.

What helped me was that Neutragena t-gel shampoo and like you mentioned it's horrid. But it does work. On my face I started using a prescription ketoconazole cream. Once I got rid of it after that long stretch it's only come back a few times and not as severe.

Two things I found that make it worse. I no longer use any soap on my face. I don't wear makeup either though. If I feel the need to wash my face I will use the shampoo lightly. Also failing to wash my hair every day. I stay home with kids and don't even go out every day so I would sometimes push it. I quickly learned that was a bad thing.

These really keep me flake free for the most part. I only use the shampoo and cream now if it seems to be developing again. Otherwise I use tea tree shampoo because I love the smell and nothing on my face.

I think the reason I developed it was after I had a TIA. Supposedly there is a link between that and this condition though they don't know why.

einstien5201 -> RE: Why do I have Seborrheic Dermatitis on my face? (10/27/2010 11:17:24 PM)

T-gel...*shudders* That stuff has TAR as an active ingredient. Kills dandruff dead, though. It's like...ok, all the metaphors that sprang to mind there are horribly offensive or just plain horrible, so I'll stick to saying it works really well.

Mishna -> RE: Why do I have Seborrheic Dermatitis on my face? (11/17/2010 5:34:15 PM)

I have that problem as well, and the solution is to wash your hair and face every day with an anti-dandruff shampoo. I use generic anti-dandruff shampoo from Walmart, and then moisturize with Bath and Body Works Body Butter. Works amazingly well. But if I'm lazy and only wash my hair and face as infrequently as you say you do, then of course I have problems. Even if you only wash your face with the shampoo and not your hair, it will help. Or, you could keep not changing what you are doing and expecting to find an external solution or for it to miraculously disappear.
