Lucylastic -> Newsweek: Obama Approval jumps (10/23/2010 1:25:36 PM)

Just sharing some info that I came across this afternoon. Im sure it will be argued to be a left wing propaganda  plot, and Im sure it was timed just right,  but there it is.....

http://www.newsweek.com/2010/10/22/poll-obama-approval-jumps-dems-more-fired-up.html

Despite doom-saying about Democrats’ chances in the midterms, the latest NEWSWEEK Poll  shows that they remain in a close race with Republicans 12 days before Election Day, while the president’s approval ratings have climbed sharply.

The poll finds that 48 percent of registered voters would be more likely to vote for Democrats, compared with 42 percent who lean Republican (those numbers are similar to those in the last NEWSWEEK Poll, which found Democrats favored 48 percent to 43 percent).

President Obama’s approval ratings have jumped substantially, crossing the magic halfway threshold to 54 percent, up from 48 percent in late September, while the portion of respondents who disapprove of the president dropped to 40 percent, the lowest disapproval rating in a NEWSWEEK Poll since February 2010.

That should offer a nice push to the opposition turnout.

Yep, it's in the bag Richie.

Just like the McCain victory.

Lucylastic -> RE: Newsweek: Obama Approval jumps (10/23/2010 1:41:41 PM)

Its getting interesting Rich,  this is my first "noticeable" midterm I have taken any notice of, so I have been watching in curiosity.
We have a local election coming up here in TO and I have to admit it is BORING compared to the games being played south of the  border.

TheHeretic -> RE: Newsweek: Obama Approval jumps (10/23/2010 2:21:26 PM)

Really? You weren't watching '06? That was the election to end the war in Iraq.

slvemike4u -> RE: Newsweek: Obama Approval jumps (10/23/2010 2:21:52 PM)

Well duh Lucy,we do everything better down here [:D]

TheHeretic -> RE: Newsweek: Obama Approval jumps (10/23/2010 2:35:53 PM)

This was written in criticism of another recently released poll, Lucy, but it seems worth bringing in.

they have cautioned that these results are not a prediction of what will happen on Election Day, only a snapshot of current voter attitudes. But what is the value of putting out results that defy logic but which can influence perceptions of the current electoral climate among political elites as well as the public?

Nope I had my own forum back in 2006 and  politics didnt come into it, it wasnt until I joined here that I got pulled into it, *damn you all*
I was forced into canvassing and involved with politics when I was younger, and hated it then, so I pretty much ignored the intricacies of nasty party politics until obama came up for election.
I have been an activist for poverty, street kids the homeless and lost of other stuff, but behind the scenes, not dealing with politicians, YUCK ptoowy
I would rather stick a mouldy stick in my eye.
As for Gallup, did you see the "rebuttal" by the Gallup EIC?

I have no comment, I dont like polls, for the reasons shown in the gallup issue, plus with 300 millionpeeps in the US, its just seems that the numbers they use are no where representational, I tend to quote them with skepticism. which is why I didnt "praise " newsweeks numbers

TheHeretic -> RE: Newsweek: Obama Approval jumps (10/23/2010 3:15:44 PM)

I was just reading the Gallup response, Lucy. What a polite way of calling someone a kook!

Lucylastic -> RE: Newsweek: Obama Approval jumps (10/23/2010 3:40:06 PM)

He must have english blood!!
LOL but yep it is

pahunkboy -> RE: Newsweek: Obama Approval jumps (10/23/2010 4:16:03 PM)

Well in THAT he has no plans to PRIVATIZE  Soc Sec.,  I DO like THAT about him.

3rd rail is alive and well ....   they must not underestimate that at all.

truckinslave -> RE: Newsweek: Obama Approval jumps (10/23/2010 4:22:42 PM)

Newsweek lost all cedibility long ago, imo. I'll stick to Gallup.

This was undoubtedly the best poll $1.00 could buy [:D]

pahunkboy -> RE: Newsweek: Obama Approval jumps (10/23/2010 4:26:09 PM)

yeah well  Bush ...  same mess.   Tho a tad worse.    No deal on that.  None.

TheHeretic -> RE: Newsweek: Obama Approval jumps (10/24/2010 7:40:14 AM)

Getting back to '06, Lucy, it's a shame you missed it. There were some interesting parallels. It was the anti-war bunch, instead of the tea party, winning primaries and trying to kick party moderates to the curb with more extreme candidates, who couldn't win in a general. Joe Lieberman's campaign would be the easy case, if you wanted to do a spot of googling.

Lucylastic -> RE: Newsweek: Obama Approval jumps (10/24/2010 8:46:24 AM)

Thanks Rich I will have a look
but to put anti war protesting in the same basket is pushing the envelope more than a bit.

Sanity -> RE: Newsweek: Obama Approval jumps (10/24/2010 8:50:01 AM)

Good point - Newsweek worth exactly a dollar

From the ground, yes. From the icky politics perspective, they are both a pool of energy and enthusiasm to be tapped and channeled. Note how the Dems have been looking to steal some of that tea party energy for themselves, as discussed on the other thread.

Lucy,

At issue is not a Republican groundswell, but that more Democrats are up for re-election, defending seats in a "throw the bums out" election mentality. In fact, Republican approval is even lower than Congress, but race by race, it's an opportunity for the opposition.

We'll have to wait and see what happens.

but to me there is a huge divide. From the outside looking in
