I moved from Chicago to PA.   And in this part of PA they bash programs.  I was amazed when I noted the biggest bashers are the FIRST IN LINE FOR ANY PROGRAM.

I seen it with my own eyes.

You see I do believe it is simple... if the global economy fails then it was not an economy based on reality and it needs to fail. Would you not agree part of the problem with the business world today is it is too complicated for the average person to understand... And even worse to complicated for the average businessman. And why is it complicated... because of all the rules and regulations.

Simple is all that ever works... the only viable solutions are simple ones...all others fail.

But I am not proposing a solution... just leave business alone.. the economy is like water it will always find a level to match its surroundings.

Butch

Regulation, as in micro manage, does not work in a world economy. BUT don't get me wrong we do need regulations to keep business competitive and fair

I agree with you here.  There is good regulation, and bad regulation.  We loaded up on the bad regulation, and when the cry came to deregulate, we cut away the good regulation.

World economies have their faults. In our race to equalize with whatever country that represents the lowest common denominator, we have to be careful we don't give away the store. But we did just that. In a quest to deregulate to be competitive globally, Wall St took that extra leash and gambled 7 times the GDP of the world. Yes, there are bigger threats than not being globally competitive in a world economy. We just found those threats.

How precisely did it work, pray tell? There wasn't a huge deficit? Deregulation didn't encourage companies to outsource labour to countries where they could pay less for it? More public money wasn't ploughed into military contractors (and as often as not blown on pointless wastes of time and effort like the SDI programme) than on anything else?

I agree.  But the "rest button" is not as simple and painless or as quick as you think it is.

the threat of SDI was instrumental in the collapse of the Soviet Union...Reagan was a master at playing the bluff card...would have rendered the Soviet Missle arsenal useless....sobering to say the least and not at all impossible....
