This is the only quote from your link.

"Both the leaders discussed the issue and noted excellent progress on negotiations on price and technical issues which have been brought to a successful conclusion,"

In your post you said

From "free" to $2.3 billion ... that's what you get from dealing with the Russians.

I pointed out that the ship was free and still is free. The links I posted show clearly that the costs are for refurbing and more than a half billion for 16 mig fighters. Your slur about dealing with the russians is unfounded.
If you are unwilling or unable to deal with people pointing out your errors in both fact and conclusion then of course running away is probably your best option.

Bingo.

This got started by an Indian blogger and went viral on conservative blogs. Where'd he get the figure? He made it up.

Costs of these trips aren't released in advance, for security reasons. But a similar trip Bill Clinton took as president cost--50 million. Total. Not per day.

This can't be good for working class people in the U.S. More "outsourcing" to India?
I'd rather see Obama go to Detroit and see the results of all this "globalism" and "free trade."

And guess what? That's exactly what this trip is about!

We sell S. Korea one car for every 50 cars they sell. It's absolutely on the list, including with teams working on solutions. FYI, the other major issue is beef.

India is 15% of the world's people! It's the largest democracy, and the third largest military power. Indonesia is also huge---these are export markets (or should be). Additionally, we don't want China controlling the entire world.

Sorry. But it's not 1900 anymore.

And do you know what I find interesting? I will wager, that even after the facts of the matter have been reported, and the erroneous information corrected, that there will still be silly people who will have it in their mind that the President rented the whole "Taj Majal" (which is a mausoleum about 750 miles away from Mumbai) and spent $200 million dollars doing so. In fact, I find it amazing that those people were ignorant enough to post such mindless nonsense in the first place, without checking the facts.

See... that is what makes me disbelieve this whole kettle of fish without any numbers. The Taj Majal was built only to house a dead woman. As far as I'm aware, it's never been used as a hotel or even a residence at any point and I did just scroll through the Wiki on it.

So, to me, this is like someone saying that the Queen of England is dropping a couple billion to stay in the Tomb of the Unnamed Soldier. Or maybe Madame Laveau's vault or just the whole of St. Louis Cemetery. I hear it's positively gorgous and very restful...

If there isn't a basic fact check, why should I believe the numbers?

Beck is totally, incredibly, fucking insane.  As proof I offer the following:

Glenn Beck is a former "Morning Zoo" disc jockey, he was NEVER #1 in his time slot, and once when in Phoenix he called his rivals wife on air and ragged on her about her & her husband not being able to procreate......

AFTER THE WOMAN SUFFERED A MISCARRIAGE

This was a well known event in the radio industry when it happened in 1986.  That is the mentality that the GOP "base" listens and gives credence to.  Then they wonder why moderates of any leaning look askance at them.

FR:

One of the things that I was worried about when Obama took office was whether or not he would continue to grow the relationship with India (and Australia) as part of a counterweight to China.

Personally, if he handles it correctly, I think a closer relationship with India is in the US's long term best interest, and I'll give him a lot of leeway to accomplish that.

Good point.

Economically, it is in the best interest of the west to deal with the whole region. India and China were the worlds two largest economies 200 years ago, they are both now in the top four. Hopefully America refuse to trade with both allowing the way for European economies to grow.

I hear ya, mike.

But thomson is a "special" case.

Unlike some people, when I put someone on ignore (and that's very rare), I really do put them on ignore.  It just makes my entire existence more pleasant.

To me, reading him is kinda like watching an addict in a hospital going through withdrawal symptoms: I have sympathy, but it's actually pretty disgusting to watch, as all that vomitus comes out of the front, all that stinking sweat comes out of the skin, the yellow stains drip onto the floor, and the liquid brown offal squishes through the sheets.

And the entire time, the addict is claiming that he can quit anytime he wants .... honest!

Just not my cup of tea, yanno?

Firm

Hey different strokes and all that.....some nights, when I am feeling particularly sadistic(yes, despite the nic,I do have a sadistic streak) I do enjoy engaging him in some sort of circular argument.....other nights I just can't be bothered.

Music, my point exactly, 50 to 1 in their favor! And people think that's going to change because Obama "talks nice" with them or gets together another of those worthless "free-trade" deals? Then we'll be selling THEM cars at a rate of 50 to 1?
It'll be like all the other free-trade deals, they go along for a few years and someone in the govt will make excuses for them and keep telling us that "things will get better" *in the future!" It's *always* "in the future" with those people. "These are *developing* countries, we need to *help* them..... develop." Yeah, they've been "developing" for the last hundred years! Who are the people in our govt working for anyway?
Look at "NAFTA", what a firecracker "success" that's been! It's gone *backwards!*
Of one thing you can be sure, when the govt tries to tell you that "free-trade" is good for you they're lying.

Your rant makes no sense.

S. Korea is not a "developing" country. Talk nice? Jesus Christ. He'll lay out framework of an agreement that then will go to Congress.

You're confusing IMF with free-trade. You keep rambling about business. Somebody's gonna sell them stuff. Would help if that were us.

Come on Tazzy this, "Well W did it" argument is getting old. He shouldn't have blown ridiculous amounts of money on this kind of shit either. I understand the importance of state visits and all but it seems our government needs to take a direct look at sites like "gotomeeting.com" or something more cost effective.

In case the point has eluded everyone, we're broke. Now everyone needs to start spending like they want to survive this crap. Just the other day I was wondering, if you, as a leader of this country knew we had terrible money trouble and you still spent like a loon could that be seen as treasonous since you are risking national security? I mean somtimes it appears they want to break the bank and ruin us.

Everyone needs to stop apoligizing for the nonsense of their favorite spendsters (no matter their party) and pay better attention to the bottom line before there is no bottom line.

Yea, it would be better if he had taken 8 mos off say...like Bush. 1/3 kinkroids...ONE THIRD of his two terms were spent...on PAID vacation. Should we assume the tax payers are paying all of this on this trip to fit the rant of this OP yet another grasping at straws in a desperate search to further denigrate a what...a black...er liberal president.

You see that's the trouble today...you can't believe the for-profit press who are now a bunch of cowards and don't want to do the real work of investigative report...they just want cheap shots.

Oh and yes we are to now show our fealty to the right and instead...start a couple more wars and come up with yet another pandering govt. entitlement...that is when it serves our fiscally conservative goals. That would be money well spent...right ? Well...wouldn't it ? Ok,ok another bailout for billionaires...you're right.
