Invictus754 -> RE: Scary Profiles (4/27/2006 4:59:26 PM)

Americans have long been afforded a false sense of security because of the two oceans to keep away others who hate us, and we only have two neighbors who have been relatively friendly (if you gloss over that whole war with Mexico thing). For all of man's existance there have been human predators, using the less fortunate and less cautious as they wished. It has only been in the last 50 years that the ability to hide their handywork has been harder and harder. However, I still think that the world will always be a dangerous place and one should never let ones guard down unless you have trusted friends at your back (or in this case - your scene). For another couple of centuries (should we make it that long) it will still be the strongest surviving and controlling the weak. These 'scary' profiles are only glimpses of the dangers that have always been there, but Americans are less aware of than most people in the world. Although it is sad to hear of anyone's misfortune, doing a hanging scene and getting your neck broken is just assessing the risks incorrectly - or, knowing the danger, ignoring it. Why would anyone willingly put their head in a noose? He had to have at least a moment of misgiving that should have been the path he chose. I have a friend who didn't buckle his seatbelt and was thrown from his pickup in an accident, paralyzing him from the chest down. He used to be a boxer, but now he is only a good example for everyone to buckle up.
