SuzanneKneeling -> Wannabe GOP chair: "God will protect us from climate change" (11/15/2010 11:17:19 AM)

So this is what that nice little experiment called homo sapiens has come down to.  People voted the Taliban back in because they were frustrated with the economy (a common voting thing that happens during a downturn), and - surprise! - we get people who are living in the 4th century running important committees in Congress.  So, it apparently doesn't matter that 97% of climatologists say this is a serious problem, that we are driving it with our greenhouse gas emissions, and that large parts of the western US will become desert in a couple decades if we don't start acting like responsible adults.  NO PROBLEM.  Why?  Because an anonymously-written book from a Bronze Age religious artifact promises that an imaginary father figure in the sky will clean up our messes after us - SO WE DON'T NEED TO CHANGE A THING.

People.  There are so many things wrong with this picture.  Do I have to spell it all out?  This country is in the hands of the equivalent of primitive island dwellers who are sure that as long as they please their Volcano God he won't smite them.  If we saw these people in an old black and white movie we'd be laughing at them and their primitive civilization.    This is a pitiful performance for a supposedly advanced country.

I agree.

DomYngBlk -> RE: Wannabe GOP chair: "God will protect us from climate change" (11/15/2010 11:33:59 AM)

Something else I can agree with

SuzanneKneeling -> RE: Wannabe GOP chair: "God will protect us from climate change" (11/15/2010 11:34:15 AM)

You agree with the superstitious lawmaker that we can keep soiling our nest with no repercussions, or you agree that this is a horrible turn for humankind?

pahunkboy -> RE: Wannabe GOP chair: "God will protect us from climate change" (11/15/2010 11:36:47 AM)

Global warming is nothing but a scam to lob an extra tax on everything I touch.  Such a tax goes to Goldman Sachs.

I am against any type of carbon tax.

This is not new, it has been the philosophy of the religious right for decades.

Remember this idiot?

US Carbon Trading Shuts Down, While Other Nations Step In To Fill the Void America’s only nationwide carbon trading market will shut its doors next month, a tacit acknowledegment that Republican gains in Congress spell doom for any sort of federal greenhouse gas regulations. But other countries — even mega-polluter China — are ready to fill the void.

Could ya share with us your climate research credentials, pahunkboy, that you know more than the people who study this?  And graduating from Glenn Beck University with a PhD in Angry Rightwing Denial doesn't count.

In trying to overcome criticism of earlier attempts to gauge the view of earth scientists on global warming and the human impact factor, Doran and Kendall Zimmerman sought the opinion of the most complete list of earth scientists they could find, contacting more than 10,200 experts around the world listed in the 2007 edition of the American Geological Institute's Directory of Geoscience Departments.
Experts in academia and government research centers were e-mailed invitations to participate in the on-line poll conducted by the website questionpro.com. Only those invited could participate and computer IP addresses of participants were recorded and used to prevent repeat voting. Questions used were reviewed by a polling expert who checked for bias in phrasing, such as suggesting an answer by the way a question was worded. The nine-question survey was short, taking just a few minutes to complete.
Two questions were key: have mean global temperatures risen compared to pre-1800s levels, and has human activity been a significant factor in changing mean global temperatures.
About 90 percent of the scientists agreed with the first question and 82 percent the second.  In analyzing responses by sub-groups, Doran found that climatologists who are active in research showed the strongest consensus on the causes of global warming, with 97 percent agreeing humans play a role.

I still find it absolutely amazing that Republicans introduced the cap-and-trade program yet suddenly became opponents of it when Obama endorsed it.

No I do not care to share my credentials.

It is a scam. I am glad to GOP won-- so we can move on from this madness.  Goldman Sachs does not need any more of MY MONEY.   MINE.

pahunkboy -> RE: Wannabe GOP chair: "God will protect us from climate change" (11/15/2010 11:58:19 AM)

And BTW-  God IS in control.

In case you wondered.

I knew that Watt was Reagan's righthand man on selling off our public lands to industry, but didn't know he was an evangelical nutcase too, rulemylife.

I just hope our soldiers can defeat the right wing fundamentalists in Afghanistan soon so they can take on our domestic ones...  it's the 21st century already people.  We don't live in primitive grass huts here.

You tea party fodder are so gullible, pahunkboy.  Goldman Sachs gives primarily to the GOP.  You're just spouting empty anger and have no idea about any of the issues you claim to care about.

In any case, TARP - which the oil man Bush started - is actually being paid back to the tax payers with a profit.

Living in a dreamworld won't save you as your world deteriorates around you.  Ignorance is not a safe haven.

kdsub -> RE: Wannabe GOP chair: "God will protect us from climate change" (11/15/2010 12:08:52 PM)

I agree with him

The earth may not be destroyed but that does not mean people won't be.

But before we go off the deep end there may be little we can do about global warming... man may contribute to it and speed it up but I believe it is a natural cycle far beyond our capabilities to stop... But nothing wrong with trying.

Butch

Why do YOU want higher prices?

WHY?

I do not want higher prices.  Even as it is regs have pushed up electric and gas here by 41%.

Will approximately 8 to 14 percent of him or her is...that is if he made us in his or her image.

People want a cleaner world-  we can start with proper lids on garbage cans and getting rid of the old tires in the yard.

People are pigs.  Look at all the litter on the road.    But it is never anyones fault- ever.
