In case it isn't wood, I don't want it, I hate chipboard with a passion, what I like is that some of their designs are quite light looking, i.e. they don't crowd and dominate rooms, I hate clutter (and before Peon dies laughing, clutter is different from the mess a generally unorganized person with too much shoes, clothes and books has)

And some of their veneer materials (sort of like a chipboard-pro) are also excellent, and much more durable than the MFI crapola. I've got a bedside unit in light wood veneer of theirs that I've had for 10 years, and it's been, and remains, solid as a rock. Even the drawer runners are a cut above, quality-wise; they always move beautifully, and the engineering in them (for a mass produced down to a price item) must be amazing.

Actually nope, clutter is too much or too heavy furniture, I prefer open spaces, a few pieces of antique furniture mixed with very simple modern stuff, I can't stand brick-a-brack and all the dust collecting objects, just like I dislike plates with patterns (white, simple, that's it) and I can't tolerate clothes closets in bedrooms, ever since I could afford it I had a spare room where I kept all my clothes, bedrooms have to be minimalistic, and old seaman chest as "box of tricks" bedside cabinet, bed, book shelves, all you need in a bedroom. His idea would be overstuffed furniture, velvet curtains, lots of flat screen TVs, amps and guitar stands that are overfloating with guitars, we made a compromise, he got velvet curtains and all the guitars in his office and an arm chair and a flat screen in the lounge and I'm currently transforming the garage in a gigantic shoe shelf, everybody happy...

My dad and I are the geniuses of flat pack furniture, ad a power drill with an allen wrench attachment? A fine, fine thing. All in all, I can find better cheaper furniture elsewhere, but I do like the ikea storage. And I am very happy with my new bed cover and velvet cushion. Their ranges of textiles is very fun!

I may have my counties confused...remember the folks they show in long smocks and straw hats? Hyacinth got bad directions from one when she was hunting for a country cottage? Isn't that Somerset? No UK accent resembles the American accents you hear on TV. There are some southern accents that do, though.

Yep, I see what you mean. A friend of mine in London is like that. Everyone hates his guitars, all lined up across the room like soldiers. He and I painted his front room once: the only way to do it was to move all his stuff into the middle to get to the walls. That, though, took an afternoon on its own. I do like a big armchair, though. The sides of mine are excellent for storing biscuits and bits of toast.

Call me narrow minded, but 20 odd guitars (haven't counted them in ages but they seem to have secret affairs and create more guitars, along with amps and pedals) are a bit excessive for somebody who doesn't play in a band. It's a bit like the invasion of the killer guitars... Plus with cats and dog running about, you want them stored away in a room where they can't knock them over, damned things are expensive.

my life is full of things I would never give up, I may not be submissive but hey I have limits too.............. My number one limit would be my dog........ if you don't like and grow to love my dog you will not last with me. I like a plush bed......... 800 thread count sheets, fluffy comforters, and piles of pillows...... don't like it? sleep on the sofa. I am a bit of a night owl....... deal with it. I adore books, I have them everywhere, if they bother you or the last book you read was in 12th grade.......... goodbye......... If you ever cut your toenails in my living room I will use something big and heavy to beat you in the head... that's nasty!! oh and I REFUSE to cook or even have liver in my house unless it's a liver treat for the dog..........yuck

Personally these things are fairly easy for me to give up. As long as he is happy I just don't really care. That doesn't mean though that I don't have a moment of saying, wow, really, no more fresh trees? It flits through my brain, creates a footstomp, and then vanishes. I thought it would be interesting to hear what others have had those "hard moments" over that didn't entail a sexual act... since the sex ones are the most commonly discussed on here, but aren't necessarily the things that really make you go... oh my gosh! ~s

WOW - that really does explain a lot! As a long term resident of the Dearborn Inn I was really taken by some of the accents but couldn't place them. The coin droppeth.
