you completely miss the point that the idea is to roll out this function to ALL AREAS OF SOCIETY.

sure it is.

Pat Down Searches at NFL Games – Bye Bye Fourth Amendment

Motion for Injunction to Prevent NFL Pat-Down

Good post.   The idea is to also put this type of thing at malls- bus stations, to even have a mobile unit that circulates in public.

Where do you draw the line?

Congress is going to have hearings on this.

TSA Unveils Mobile Security Checkpoint Pilot Program with Maryland Transit Authority Hanover, Md. – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA), in partnership with the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), today announced a Mobile Security Checkpoint (MSC) pilot program to screen MARC passengers and their bags for explosive material.  Passenger screening will be conducted at the Dorsey Road MARC commuter rail station, April 4-28, 2006.  Screening will occur every weekday for four weeks between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. The MSC program is designed to determine the operational feasibility, effectiveness, and cost of commercially available screening technology installed in a mobile container.  The results from the pilot will be used to determine in which environments this containerized checkpoint is suitable.

Big difference between pat downs that have been going on for at least 8 years and the TSA rules for those who refuse to be scanned

Better still, unless you're a business traveler, just drive where ever you're about to fly to (unless its overseas). Let's face it, the airlines are making way too much money as it is, and they're not bringing any sanity into the debate on behalf of the consumers, therefore, let a few airlines go out of business.

1) Not practical for trips over about 8 hours away.  Trust me, I drive for stuff up to 6.
2) Some employers won't allow it.
3) If airlines were making so much money, you wouldn't have a few in bankruptcy with almost all posting negative earnings.

My  most frequent trips are in excess of 850 miles each way, and it's not uncommon for me to fly  more than 2000 miles each way.  Few employers will be happy with you taking extra days just to drive to a meeting.

And no, hunk, it's not like getting into a microwave oven.  Not even close.

Willbeur, the X-ray machines do not show internal cavities.  This is a backscatter system, not a transmission system.  That's how they keep the power levels down.  It's similar in approach to the TeraHertz microwave backscattering systems.

It's still invasive.

At some point we have to decide whether we want safety at all costs regardless of the personal intrusion.

Pretty much as soon as you come on airport property you are voluntarily surrendering yourself for arrest until such time as you are screened ,checked and are released. You might not technically be under arrest but you might as well be.

If pat downs or scanners are too intrusive we could slow the whole system down even more by implementing El Al type security measures instead.

That is what is happening- planned.

I dread that this search thing is planned for use in all areas of society.   What do they think we are,  Israel?

TSA Hit With Lawsuits As Revolt Explodes The TSA has been hit with a number of lawsuits as the revolt against Big Sis, naked body scanners, and invasive groping measures explodes, with one case involving a woman who had her blouse pulled down in full public view by TSA goons who then proceeded to laugh and joke about her exposed breasts. 23 Comments

I have hear they are are no joke. I think they are much smaller though. Using their tactics would make flying a nightmare. Well even more of one. I have hear they have anti-missile technology on their planes. They have a whole different set of problems to fight.

Fuck me, quit whining. I think there are plenty of people on 9/11 that would have appreciated a bit more thorough search. Just sayin

On 9/11 box cutters were an allowable item so it would not have made a difference.

The question is how far do we want to take security measures?

They could hijack with box cutters because the old modus operandi was to just do what they said, keep 'em mellow, and get on the ground.

Nowadays the whole plane would tackle a hijacker in the twinkle of an eye, even if the guys had a chainsaw!

I Think they had a guy over in Saudi arabia blow himself up with an anal bomb. If we get an attempt like that you know what that will mean. I figure feces and explosives inside an ass might look similar on a scanner. So for your comfort bring the lube of your choice for the enhanced search.

Do you hear the snap-back of those surgical gloves?
