Scandal: TSA Turns Off Scanners To Undermine Protest In Crude PR Stunt The TSA turned off many of its naked body scanners across the country today in a hastily crafted PR stunt to mute the national opt out protest against invasive screening procedures, as Big Sis made a mockery of airport security measures that Americans were told were imperative to protect them from terror.

Scanners and pat downs would have prevented 9/11. I dont really see a problem with them myself. The alternative would be everyone howling about a lack of security, when the next plane crashes.

When the next plane crashes, it will be in such a way that scanners and pat-downs haven't worked. The more I read on the subject the more terrifying it is - how easy it is to get jobs in airports (without any in-depth background checks) or, even easier, just load the device into cargo ...

Maybe so, but that in no way detracts from the effectiveness of the scanners. All any administration can do is react to the latest threats. I saw someone mention not being allowed to take drinks onto aircraft, I flew to the US a few days after the alert started, Gatwick security was a pain in the arse but very few complained. Most saw the need to react to the threat at that time.

Nope, the next attack, if it comes will not be through passenger airport security, as that now is too tightly sewn up, my guess as ever has been airside for reasons mentioned earlier in the topic, that and the lounge services after check in,Who checks the boxes of food and commodities that come into the lounge shops ? Are the people that work in those shops scanned for outside interests, what about the suppliers ?

But at least the US has sort of acted on the possibility of breaches in airside security as indicated here

But as to where the next device will come from independant security experts suggest other areas, but it is interesting to note industry is dreaming up all sorts of methods to ensure sales as indicated here

It was still wrong of me to be insulting.

But FFS, shock-jock or not, it was about as funny as a plane crash.

And that exempts him from being funny does it?

It's utterly moronic and, what's worse, entirely unfunny.

I do apologise for being insulting though, that was wrong of me.

But FFS man, get a fucking grip.

My opposition to this is visceral; I feel literally sick to my stomach when I see video of the pat-downs on television. If I were confronted by a TSA agent trying to feel me up, I would not be flying that day. If one of them tried to molest my kids, I would probably be in jail that day.

I know exactly what you mean.

The thing is (and this is part of the insanity that is the TSA), once you've got as far as trying to get to your flight, you're in a closed loop; you cannot just say "oh you know what? Fuck it, and fuck you, I'll drive", because then they can apparently sue you for $10,000. So "If I were confronted by a TSA agent trying to feel me up, I would not be flying that day." won't wash with them. It's a bit like a thermodynamics lecture; 1. You can't win, 2. You can't break even and 3. (weirdest of all) You can't get out of the game.
On a fundamental level that just strikes me as very wrong.

I tell y'all what....... My graphics guy, his wife, and their two kids, flew from Moline IL to some godforsaken place down south to spend the holiday with her family. Left yesterday and flying back Sunday. If there is ANYone more prone to having hysterical problems with the issues at hand, it is that woman and their daughter. I don't know what her mental issues are, but I've never met a more emotionally fragile, high maintainance woman outside a mental facility. She used to work for me, until I fired her for incompetence. She hasn't held a job since and that was quite a few years ago. The daughter seems to be an apple off the tree. Apparently a trip to the medical doctors office tramatizes her so much she has to stay home from school for a week.

If the drama at the airport is what you all have described, they both would have gone into hysterics at the airport and will ruin the entire families holiday with their melodrama. There will be no way they will make the return flight and will demand her parents rent them a car to drive back home, causing my employee to be late getting back to work.

I will let you all know what transpires.

Somehow.......I am pretty confident they will be back as planned, unless there are weather/flight issues.

Um ... one journey doesn't mean the system isn't fucked.

But you knew that. At least, I hope you knew that.

I would also suggest that the TSA are liable to be on their very best behaviour this Thanksgiving.

But hey, it's your country; if you're happy trading freedom for less security then that’s your call, not mine.
