As I say, if the exchange pleases you then it's your country, and best of luck to you.

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety".

Edited to add: Except of course in this case it's not even security anyway, so you're trading gold for bullshit. Not a good trade.

No shortage of either gold or fertilizer here.

I only hope you're as cheery the next time your personal freedoms and protections under the law are curtailed.

It'll probably never happen though. I mean it's not like you've ever been involved in anything that society might consider ...

... oh ... hang on ...

All the melodramatic people talking about being "felt up" or how this amounts to any form of liberty/security trade-off really crack me up.

Just because this site is filled with a variety of perverts doesn't mean the screeners pop wood over the thought of touching someone of the same gender (they can't do opposite gender pat downs).

And despite what the melodramatic ones claim, you always have the choice of not going anywhere near the airport to begin with.

The flaw in your attempt at a snarky lil comeback is that people who enjoy the things this site was created for are already used to being considered outside the mainstream. Therefore, they're kinda used to it.

I think they should hire a bunch of strippers and charge people $50 extra if they want a thorough pat down. Apply the funds to the deficit.

Absolutely! And what with America being such a tiny country, that's a perfectly acceptable state of affairs. Break out the donkey and have at it!

Note also that, when governments start trampling on people's rights, they never, absolutely never, stop at just one.

PS: Great 1st post BTW. Welcome.

Wow, they're "kind of used to" being arrested and detained, and searched without probable cause, in contravention of their constitutional rights? These guys really do lead a rock & roll lifestyle!

PS: It's not a "sarky lil [sic] comeback" - it's called wit. You might want to look it up. Look up "sock puppet" while you're at it. And, with that, into the ignore bin with you.

Again, your snark falls short. I said there is a choice, and there is. Every decision you make has consequences you must accept. You can tailor your choice based on the consequences you're prepared to accept, but cannot tailor consequences to a choice you prefer.

Please show me either A) Where I said any of that, or B) Where that is happening in this case.

Call it what you want, it still failed, as do you. The fact that you chose to resort to insult (attempts) shows me I've already won. Enjoy your melodrama.

Outstanding

BTW that's one beautifully concise and focussed writing style you have. I'm very impressed. I can usually get my thoughts over in a vaguely coherent fashion but (as you and the rest of the world have doubtless spotted by now), I'm not a terse kind of fellah. I can't do "compact" as it pertains to the written form, and I'm impressed by those who can say what they want to, but do it in n words or fewer. Nice job.

you silly people caring about such little problems when they're such greater problems out there.

People having their Constitutional rights trampled on, and moreover their basic human privacy and sense of self, infringed, as well as suffering what could well turn out to be sexual assault, and assault on minors too, is "silly little problems"?

Wow.

I have to ask... what constitutional right is being trampled upon?

Kinda my question as well, tazzy.

~fr~

today a fairly regular guest checked into the hotel.  He flew in from New Jersey (outta LaGuardia).  He told me he had gotten to the airport 3 hrs early, due to all the hype about the opt out thing..  and found that it took no longer to go through the security stuff than it normally does.  He said that the 'enhanced security measures' were no big deal, and he couldn't see what all the hue and cry was about.
